I always found ironic that an organization that killed, raped, tortured, burned, persecuted, chased people out of countries, all because of having different faiths and religions is now playing the "always kind and life concerned humanitarian" type of role.
Shouldn't they look at their past and just stop meddling in people's personal choices? Or are they gonna say that they are actually worried about people's souls? Give me a break....
Oh wait maybe they care about our souls after all... That's why during the 15th century they used to accept money out of people hand's (most of them poor country peaseants) in order to absolve their souls of any sins they may have commited. It was like: Buy your salvation! Pay us to forgive 2 of your sins and we offer the third one!
Fuck*** scumbags!

The churches have bills to pay too you know, like property tax, hydro, maintenance and repair, grounds keeping, maintaining the cemetery if that church has one and clothing/sustenance for the clergy who perform their religious duties for the community.

They also have a right to voice their opinions and beliefs.

Besides, you think your government in the past and present time was/is full of Santa madonna's lol.

Haha you re giving me all the game.
If they basically blackmailed uneducated peasants into giving them money by telling them that if they didn't they would be sent straight to hell, then that makes them no better then your average crook. Which proves my point: they ain't representatives of God on earth and they will never be.
So basically all of their efforts to try and look like their some kind of "holliness keepers" on earth fall to the ground the minute they don't represent nothing but themselves.
So it's not by the will of God that assisted dying isn't legalized; it's rather because of a bunch of old child molesters that probably love to see people get sick and suffer so then they can come in and take advantage of their vulberability and sell them thier theology.

If an individual requires the sacraments, then they must practice the virtue of almsgiving, which is the act of giving money to the church so the church can reach the poor and destitute and allow them free access to the seven sacraments. If your a practising Catholic and you firmly believe in the seven sacraments, the corporal and spiritual works of mercy then you are obligated to donate so these services may continue to flourish within your community. I've never heard a priest, saint or Pope say that if you don't give them money, then you will go to hell.

The act of suicide is a grave sin according to the Catholic church, it breaks the commandment 'thou shalt not kill'

These people barely know how to read let alone know all of that religious mumbo jumbo.
They have been misled and taken advantage of.
Also, if what's at stake is the spirituality of each of those persons then how come money is the trading currency for that process?
Christ himself has teached the humankind to avoid materialism and has warned his disciples several times about the dangers of money hunger and greed.

He has also made statements about helping the poor and helping immigrants just not those in his own backyard. Have you been to Rome and Vatican City? There are homeless people everywhere.

Do as I say not as I do.

Of course they do. More like hundreds of millions. No doubt half of the clergy are tax dodgers too.

I was in Vatican City a couple of years ago and the amount of beggars on the street was unbelievable. I put some money in a box for a man that had no limbs. I saw a few what looked like priests out in full garb. Or they could've been clergy members I'm not sure. But not a single one of them paid any attention to the homeless.

I'd just like to say that this isn't only the catholic church. They are several governments and Islamic regimes that operate in this way and who are also against euthanasia.

You can have your own religious beliefs. Many do they keep to themselves and don't harm anybody. But as you said these figurehead are frauds. They prey on the weak and vulnerable. They manipulate the truth for their own gain. They know.exactly what they're doing too.

In my opinion, the worst of the lot are those priests, bishops, cardinals and even nuns - pedophiles who have abused children for decades, perhaps for centuries. Then when they were exposed, the church just moved them around and they continued their disgusting actions in another church. They have destroyed countless lives and continue to do so.

I really despise the rhetoric that these religious people spew (no offense to the level headed ones or the group at large, just the more fundamental/extreme ones, who wish to push their agenda on others - meaning that they want to decide what is best for everyone rather than respect others' personal decisions, choices.). People like the Pope only stymie progress towards a more humane and compassionate society. It sucks that it's almost 3/4 of the way through 2019 and that still euthanasia and assisted dying is still taboo in a lot of the places in the world, including the US. While 2019 has seen some good progress in several states, still almost 80% of the US still prohibits euthanasia and assited dying laws. Maine and New Jersey are the ones this year to have assisted dying/death with dignity laws passed this year. I can't say what 2020 will hold, but I can only hope that more states will pass assisted dying and death with dignity laws.

It's terryfiingly sad, isnt it?
Just to think of all the innocent, naive and defenseless children that were molested by those that should have protected them.
All those centuries ago and even nowadays.
If the creature who created us, (that they claim to represent) does indeed exist, and if it is as just as people claim, then these pedo's must be harshly punished. I don't care when did they live, where they are now and how many centuries ago it was, these demons should be brought back to life just to be punished for what they did to these poor kids. I hate the lot of them.

The bible doesn't even speak about a Pope.
It was just men's lust for power and dominance that made them create the Pope figure.
The Pope was always more like an Emperor, fighting wars and sacking cities than a representative of God. I mean, how can the all perfect G.O.D be represented by warmongering, prostitute bustin', old pedophile?

The urge to address inconsistencies in religlion is misguided. Religion is nothing but sickness, so of course they will always do mischief, what else? What exactly else? Fuck religion so much.

Oh and by the way this "attack" on euthanasia actually happened yesterday or today. If you google it there are still news with only a few hours detailing what he said.
They seem to be aiming a lot towards assisted dying lately, it's the second time in a 2 week period.
Maybe they are running scared, eh?
Back in May 2018 our assisted dying bill failed to pass on Parliament, thanks to the Catholic lobby ridden right wing parties.
There will be elections for the Parliament on 6th October, and the socialists and the progressive left are in for a big win.
Now i don't support any political party and i generally don't mess with politics, but i'm actually hoping the socialists win so we can put these catholic elitists in their place. Most of the young population here isn't catholic anymore. So why should they continue to hold such a tight hand on our lives? These catholic rich families are overrepresented on our Parliament. We gotta slim them down.
I might as well go vote for the first time and maybe in 4 year period we may get an euthanasia law.

Sometimes I like to lighten the mood a bit. I had no intention of getting political, much less snide and insulting, so I'm going to go ahead and nope the fuck away now.

Hah!..Indeed.

Prophets told their tales in rhythms and in rhymes, in secrets and in lies. Does not mean their tales reflected the truth. World wars started because one came and spoke. The public is still focused on the sacrifices of WW1and WW2. No one seems to mention the billions who had to die in the name of a non existing god, just to spread the religion of Christianity. Justified? No. But still accepted.
