I have survived two attempts, one full suspension hanging and the other partial hanging.
During my full suspension hanging attempt I remember being incredibly scared of the pain I'd experience so I tried to gradually lower myself from the chair so as not to put too much pressure on my neck right away. The pain was quite bearable if it weren't for the fact that I felt myself suffocating, but I endured it and got used to it fairly quickly. It felt like my head was going to explode from the pressure building in it. Unfortunately, while doing that I slipped off the chair (that's at least what I imagine must've happened) and immediately lost consciousness. At that point, I was completely suspended and didn't feel any pain or discomfort. Having suddenly slipped from the chair, the rope was not positioned correctly and was therefore putting much pressure on my trachea rather than on the carotid arteries, so I regained consciousness after what might've been 10 seconds. And when I did a wave of sharp and excruciating pain originating from my neck and spreading to my head and rest of the body hit me. I managed to endure it at first, but after it became clear to me that I wasn't going to pass out as I had planned I gave up.
My neck had a distinct red ligature mark for a week afterward. It hurt like hell. I could barely swallow and definitely couldn't rotate my head without being in pain.
But yeah the suspension hanging attempt was much less painful though it still felt uncomfortable and I was in pain for a week after attempting as well. Hope that answers your question.
