I've drank alcohol in one single night that would kill a horse, but I've never been addicted to it. I guess that would change if I indulged in it everyday. I also abused my prescribed benzos for a year, and I can say I pretty much remember nothing from that time lol, but I certainly felt better than now. It's weird, because I really appreciate myself while sober; because I can make hard decisions. I guess I would lose that if I were to over indulge in any drug. I do have some curiosities though and have thoughts about trying pretty much any drug. I think the only drugs I wouldn't try are psychedelics, because I'm scared of what my mind would come up with in terms of hallucinations.
And of course, I'm addicted to nicotine/cigarettes, half a pack a day, so that counts lol

Things went opposite for me in terms of drugs/alcohol consumption.

I've smoked weed for over 10 years and when I started hitting serious lows back in April I was no longer able to handle the high. Paranoia and extreme anxiety started setting in no matter how much I dose.

I was never much of a drinker (maybe 5 drinks a year) previously, however now I find myself drinking a tall boy a day if not every other day. It's not much, but it's a big difference for me. I find I cope better and loosen up quite a bit.

Mostly binge drinking. Although I started taking weed about a month ago and it's really helping me not want alcohol so much. When I'm high, I'm content not to drink, and when I do, I don't feel the need for more than the equivalent of 3 or 4 shots. I used to drink like 10 in one night. I also used to get intense cravings for alcohol -- which would get stronger with each day of not drinking -- but weed lessens those cravings.
