We changed the requirements to enter chat to prevent trolls and alt-accounts from entering chats easily and pursuing malicious goals. This would defeat the purpose of changing the requirements, as potential trolls and bad actors could simply mass post etc to reach whatever numbers are needed and gain access. The mods always have a good reason for things like this.

Spam posting doesn't help. If you've reached out to the mods, they will get back to you with their answer. Keep in mind people have jobs and lives outside of here and many are in different time zones.

I'm honestly just curious because I feel like it would be better for me to talk to people in real time who are likeminded and reply fast instead of having my words lingering on the website.

Same. I had some pretty good discussions with another user, I was quite sad to find out, about a month later, that chat isn't available for me right now. Life sometimes gets in the way so meeting the requirements, whatever they are, seems tough.
That been said, I see the point of it. Chat was indeed becoming a cesspool of sorts

All of my private messages are also gone going back years with no error messages. It just looks like they never existed at all. Is making a ticket a way to see them again? I didn't memorize people's usernames and have lost contact with everyone i spoke with on here because of this. Pretty devastated about losing access to the chat but more so about the old messages.

How will we know that we have access again? Will the chat icon show up in the same place as before?

not sure if it helps at all but i just got access to chat this week. i'm not sure what i did but i did post, reply, and react to plenty of posts aswell as lurk regularly since my join date (i'm pretty new)

maybe they approve people for chat manually, based on recent activity?

yes it did, it appeared and stays in the top right corner to the left of the search bar. my chat unlocked at about 50 messages and you have a much a higher react score than i do already so i think if you just post some more you should regain access to it? but this is just speculation.. i also wonder if mods are manually approving people based on what they post about aswell but i wouldn't know ofc.
