Venting Potentially at a complete dead end

One of my exes is blackmailing me with stuff from when we were dating years ago is threatening to spread it to everyone I know if I don't do something for one of his friends. I'm so anxious, I feel sick. I feel like the only way out of this is to end it, but at the same time I don't want this to have to be what ends my life. I never understand why people are so evil. I don't understand what is gained from hurting and humiliating me.

Please look at your state/country's blackmail and extortion laws. Some of them have passed new legislation due to suicides as a result of such threats. It might be embarrassing to go to the police but if this is pushing you toward either suicide or humiliation might as well try and bring him down.

I would but I'm not sure how much trouble I can get in for what I did. But it's probably for the best that I look into it.
