One of the harshest truths I've learned in my life is that almost nobody cares about suicidal or depressed people until its too late.

We all have seen and heard those comments before... When somebody dies of suicide, everyone cries about how they wished they knew, they missed the signs, they could have helped, where did it go wrong etc etc..

Most people don't care about people like us. That's the truth. I can understand it a lot of the time as well since we all have our own struggles and compassion fatigue is real. But it just sucks when you go to people for help and you can tell that they don't want to be bothered or offer you fake support by giving you reassurance then ghosting you.

I thought about writing long, personalized notes to each of my friends and family. I changed my mind after thinking about all of this. The only people in my life that have ever truly been there for me through everything have been both my exes, my parents and a couple of extended family members. They are the only ones who I'll be creating detailer, personalized notes for. Everyone else will get standardized one.

This isn't to say that everyone else in my life is a bad or selfish person who won't be genuinely sad after my passing. I guess it just means that they don't care as much as I thought they would.

I read the title of your post and just said to myself, I couldn't agree more!

I have nothing profound to say on the topic other than it's true. At the end of the day, people are concerned for themselves and true understanding and empathy for others is rare. And I think it takes a dramatic event to shock people into understanding

I agree. I also think people expect too much from people. We suck more than we are able to realize. It's very hard to see beyond our noses, let alone empathize and provide true help.

this is sadly true...

another worst thing (& harshest reality/truth/fact) is that: people will leave you alone when you're at the lowest...
this is the world where people only just want to 'befriend' with all those 'happy, positive, optimistic, successful, famous, strong, influential, cool' people...
yes, it's ironic... & it's just sad...

yes. it feels quite hollow to realize that even the people who come to you grieving/ranting will not do the same for you. Going through this with my roommate after I've been there for her grandma's death and 2 situationships. Realized she's never asked me to hang out/initiated nor have we interacted in the past month after my depression got worse. It's a good reminder that nothing is reciprocal in life.

Yes, this is true. Even parents watching their own kids suffering from depression get desensitzed to it. Its your own kid how could you not want to help them?

I have a theory for that.

"Spent Emotion Soapbox Syndrome"

My experience in the UK, as a 90's child and how other mothers have been with the women I've dated. Probably much more prevalent in poor households, especially non working single mothers. As they are likely to be a part of the theme below.

Common theme; Cigarettes, Wine, Soaps. Corrie, Eastenders, Emmerdale. Zero attention to child.

They'll spend emotion in these fictional shows, where it's safe, then they don't know how/feel uncomfortable/unsafe to express emotion with their child, which cycles further neglect.

And then when it comes to their other low class friends, they all wallow in a fictional story about cancer, but then when someone gets cancer they know "oh its sad isnt it, well, I bagsy their washer when they're gone" There's more genuine upset at the TV characters woes than to the people around them. People around them extends into society, thus our psychological behaviours, wherever learnt, whether in good intentions or behind closed doors making monsters, impacts every one of us as a society.

Crazy phenomenon.

You'd think they'd be practiced at emotions, now the kicker is. Are these shows designed for people like my mother, is it a part of dark psychology at play?

My mum used to howl laughing at a film when I was a kid, I've recently only reflected that when I used to look at her laughing, I'd look at her like she was an utter peice of shit (I'm about 6 lol) and tell her "its not even funny, its a shit film"

Do you know why a 6 old can look offended like she smelt of shit for just laughing? Because she never involved her self with me and we never had a laugh together. Never a bond.

Funny enough, See No Evil Hear No Evil, the film, had me howling as an adult when I gave it a chance.

Any last words?

I suppose a fucks out of the question! 😂😂
(just the way Richard Prior comes out with it) 😂

And the police station mug shot scene. 👌😂
