Thank you for this site. I would probably be a vegetable or have gone through a very painful suicide if it were not for SaSu. Due to this site I have received enough information to acquire a painless exit strategy and have been able to stay alive for my family a bit longer. Not sure how your situation is right now mentally/otherwise, so I can only express my gratitude and wish you the best.

I've not been on this site for very long, but I can tell you that I've been rejected by mainstream society for years due to my mental health. When I came here, I found a home. I found people who are suffering just as I am, I found compassion, friendship, understanding and non-judgmental people. I am very sorry to see you go, but I do understand. Hello, members of the community.

Today, I announce my resignation as operator. By tomorrow, this account will be permanantly deleted and I won't have any access to the site, administrative permission, or anything to do with the backend.

Since Serge hasn't been involved with the site in a long time and I'm resigning too, I've spent the last week transferring everything over to the new operator, someone capable and trustworthy who you will get to know very soon. They will also be a familiar face around here, too.

I do not take this decision lightly, but in light of recent events, I believe that putting this community in the hands of someone I trust and who cares about this community is the right call. My mission and desire here has always been to make sure that everyone has the freedom to speak freely about issues around suicide and mental health, topics that you can't talk openly about anywhere else. I believe this site has done good in the world and I am certain that this community has saved countless lives. Many people may not believe that, and to them I say: Ask around, you'll be surprised.

The way the NYT has twisted the purpose of this community and the good that it has done has been very damaging to everyone. Not only did they make a transparent attempt to take this site down, but they did so in the most unethical and dishonest way possible.

This place is full of caring people that are hurting, looking for someone to talk to, or looking for support in life. We are not a cult, far from it. While it is true that many people come here during their darkest moments, myself included, my main intent has always been to make this place into somewhere people can talk about issues in their life, suicide included, without judgment or without being shoved off to a crisis hotline that doesn't care about their well being.

This community has brought me peace and solace, in the fact that before I started it, I was in a very dark time of my life myself.

Community support works, and I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for this community. Although I have researched methods and at one point considered taking my own life, I was able to find some purpose and meaning in my life by being a part of this community. Thank you all for being there when I needed it the most.

I have received thanks from many members on and off this site that tell me that the forum has helped them make friends, and feel at ease about whatever bad is going on in their life. I have also had the opportunity to speak to some of those grieving over the loss of family or loved ones, and I got a chance to hear from them too. As a person that has experienced loss myself, twice in the last year alone, I know that it is not easy to get over losing a loved one. I have much sympathy for those that have gone through the same, and my condolences go out to them.

The truth is that I and many others have been painted as villains for running this community. I have been called such things as callous, dangerous, despicable, angry, or even a "murderous psychopath", but people who know me know that I am far from that, inside and outside this community. Some people may not be happy that this forum exists, but this great community has a purpose, one that started in a subreddit banned out of the blue by Reddit in order to make way for advertisers and to make their site more palatable to investors. They have long abandoned their free speech stance in order to make a quick buck. But this site will never sell out, have ads, or anything of the kind. This place is for you, and for everyone who needs a place to express themselves and feel better.

I have made many friends here, many of whom I would like to still keep in touch with after I resign.

This is so sad to hear. But it's understandable. You have to take care of yourself first. You will be greatly missed, and things won't be the same without your presence.

Always remember that you have helped far more people than any of the disgusting journalists who feel the need to create smear campaigns against things that their brains are too small to comprehend. Their actions are far more unethical than anything that has occured as a result of your creation of SS.

They have gone too far. You have done nothing wrong, and only created a place that has benefited so many people, regardless of what mainstream society has to say about it. Unfortunately as they say, the nail that sticks out gets hammered down. People don't like to hear the reality of people like us, because it threatens their worldview. I learned about SS from the NYTimes. This is my first post. In my short time here i have been impressed by the compassion and thoughtfulness i have seen. SN has been ordered and i now hope and believe that what remains of my life will be less fraught with the terror that i will have to suffer/bear painful decline and a prolonged, agonizing death. I am curious as to what laws did they break and how if anything can get to the courts. If anything since all the admins did was mostly provide information and whatever someone does with that information is on them. If someone kills themselves they made the individual choice to do it and no one forced them to do it so I don't see how they can make a case for murder unless I'm missing something.

I think it's very simple ... These young people who are on this site (by this I mean not legally an adult), where are your parents? Why are they not checking the sites you have on your electronic devices? Are they too fucking busy to take care of what they need to be and then when something happens (because you "pretend" you're an adult on this site) your dumbass parents blame everybody else but themselves for your demise? This is what it really boils down to. The parents are too involved in their own lives and don't have time to check on their kids. THen like cockroaches they gather others who want to belong to something who have no idea what we are feeling and print stupid ass articles. This further emphasises the point that Mental Illnesses always get ignored when Mental Health is discussed. Suicidal ideation is a reality people have to face up to everyday. Nobody wants to hear about incurable illnesses that drive people to killing themselves.

These people will never be able to understand the suffering & would much rather tell you that life is worth living, from the perspective of not having to live with a mental illness.

It's so patronising to tell that to a suicidal person. You wouldn't tell someone wheelchair bound that life is worth living when you can walk.

The more you try to limit the access to suicide, the more violent the acts of suicide becomes. You only need to look at the war on drugs to see how it doesn't change anything.

The system we have as a whole needs a complete shake up. We are the only species that has to pay to exist on this planet & we are destroying it.

Being a functioning human being requires working your whole life at a job, repeating the same stuff until your body is no longer capable of functioning anymore, and you have to hope you have enough saved, so you can afford to have your body buried in the ground.

Some people just can't accept that for others, the negatives outweigh the positives. We delude ourselves into thinking that we should shut ourselves off from the bad parts to focus on the good parts to have a natural death because we are scared of dying.

Instead of labelling this guy a murderer etc. Teach your children about mental health. Learn about mental illnesses. Learn about symptoms. Don't just breed children to fill an empty void in your life, because whatever emotions you are hiding about yourself will just replicate itself, and expose your own denial about life.

Thank you for your service, Marquis. This space has provided me comfort and hope, and the safety to express dark feelings rather than have them fester.

I just wanted to say, I came to this site years ago and it's helped me through many dark times. I've found a peace and comfort within this community that I never got from suicide hotlines, in fact I have found those cold and useless. When I'm in my most vulnerable place, this is where I come.
I do agree that young folks need a different, more protected space but I don't know what I'd do without this one.
Mostly what I get from here is community and connection. Suicide hotlines do not provide that in the least. All you can hope for in crisis is to be drugged and carted off to an emergency room 'till the insurance runs out, handed text book solutions and told it's your fault if you can't make them work. I wish the people focused on taking this site down would realize it's filling a gap in services and need. Maybe focusing on that would save more lives.
It reminds me of the no-kill shelters that are all sweetness and light, but leave behind so many starving, abandoned and neglected animals that can't get any help because they are not adoptable, so they are left to suffer.
I think maybe that's what this site is, a place for abandoned people.
So I wanted to express my thanks that it exists.

I'm one of the long term members and this place has always been something of a home these days. I hope that it will continue to be a safe place for vulnerable people and that the future team will take care of it responsibly.
