Genres? tags? idk, just what to expect: instrumental, electronic, experimental, ambient, progressive rock, concept piece

First of all, it's 22 minutes long, I know, BEAR WITH ME! This track is really worth listening to from beginning to end, and I promise you it does not feel like 22 minutes when you do. They will fly so fast you wouldn't even notice (in my experience). I have to preface that it gets pretty heavy emotionally and sound-wise, and I recommend giving it your full attention, so lying in bed, lights off, headphones, that sort of thing.

If you really need just a sample to convince you, this is my personal favorite part: 11:12-13:22. ALTHOUGH, I believe it does not work nearly as well when listened to without the rest, and if you intend to listen fully, don't spoil it for yourself! The first listen was a magical experience for me, I can't stress this enough. I'd say that starting from about 3:18 onwards you will not be able to pause, as it just gets better and better from there.

Hope I don't sound like a salesperson, I'm just genuinely very passionate about it 😅. Anyway, here it is (no YouTube link because it isn't available for me there):

This is a fantastic piece made by Dan Warren - a lesser-known and very underrated artist, most famous for his Barnaby's Chair album made for Hypnospace Outlaw. I encourage you to check out his other stuff, just a few recommendations: Entropy, Falling Down, Satellite, Corduroy, Parallel Universes (actually, just all of The Scientist album 😁). All of his stuff is on Spotify, but unfortunately Bandcamp and SoundCloud only have some.

I've been listening to Bitter Suite on repeat for the past few weeks, and it occupies my head very often. It has become one of the most fitting tracks to browse this website to, seriously! It's a fully instrumental piece, composed of 5 parts, though honestly, more like 5 other tracks. It's kind of like a short concept album, but just all in one track. The parts are named on the Bandcamp page, but no timestamps are given. Here are my estimates if I were to separate them:

0:00 Nondenominational Funeral Service for a Small Household Appliance
2:05 Thanks To Aphantasia We Can't See Each Other Any More (what a fucking title!)
6:20 Discomfort Food
8:40 Monster of the Weak
13:22 A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Sargasso
18:55 Discomfort Food Reprieve

I don't really know how to comment on these, as I am not a musician and lack knowledge of musical terms, however, I can tell you what I personally felt about certain parts. I really love the Discomfort Food leitmotif present throughout the track, how it gets twisted in Monster of the Weak (the best part of the track btw), and how it returns at the end after two grueling, overwhelmingly heavy-sounding tracks, but instead of being a pleasant respite, it now just sounds like a tragic acceptance. Actually, after my first listen I immediately thought of The five stages of grief, and that maybe this track is something like a musical representation of them, but the more I think about it, the less it fits. But who knows? What I know for sure is that the track carries a consisten emotional narrative all throughout, with such a rich and varying palette, it left me feeling overwhelmed, saddened, hurtful, awestruck, and many more emotions.

Anyway, I hope I didn't bore you with my (what is very likely) autistic hyperfixation rambling about this silly little song. But I really hope at least a few people listen to it and take away their own meaning out of it. Maybe I'm overestimating how profound it is, but I like to believe instrumental tracks are capable of carrying just as much meaning as songs with lyrics.

This might unironically be the most high-effort post I'll ever write on this site, or in my life period. Alright, time for me to check y'all's sick tunes. Peace!✌️

I really liked reading your thoughts on the song(s?), it helped me enjoy the music so much more. I definitely agree that instrumentals can be as meaningful as songs with lyrics. Thank you very much for sharing.

Happy Halloween! On the occasion, here's a track from B3313 (Super Mario 64 Internal Plexus) - a horror ROM hack of SM64, which is unironically one of the most unsettling horror games for me (however it requires a lot of context and previous investment in the original game to fully appreciate). I'll try to talk as little about the hack as I can, but I don't have much to say aside from context.

This track is titled Dire, Dire Victory, and is composed by the lead developer of B3313 himself - Chris R. Lillo, who is a solo rock artist (formerly vocalist of a band Brutal Agresión). It is a remix of the credits theme from the original Super Mario 64, but in a much more... d i r e tone. Get it? Because it's in the name? Did you get that? It's dire because it's referen

It's played in one of the final areas of the game, and really sets the oppressive, negative mood of what's to come. The ROM hack is basically one giant compilation of all the creepypastas and urban legends surrounding the game and its early beta versions. One of the most well known "legends" is the "Negative Emotional Aura", which refers to numerous accounts of certain locations in the original SM64 negatively impacting players' moods. B3313 itself has a very troubled development history, filled with quite a bit of drama between developers, which I recommend you not look up, as it's a rabbit hole that's not worth exploring, trust me. TLDR it's a lot of childish pity, misunderstanding, and hurt people hurting people back and forth. Point is, it truly feels like this track has some real-life negativity channeled into it by Chris, as it's one of the last pieces made for the game, I believe, after all the drama happened and the team split apart.

Anyway, the timing of me discovering this track is funny, as it was the period when I was becoming actively suicidal after years of passive ideations, which probably didn't help with my perception of it :ahhha:. I was also working on my failed bachelor's thesis back then, and MAN is that a can of worms I DO NOT want to re-open. I guess it may come across as a bit silly to you, with it being a Mario creepypasta soundtrack of all things, but it genuinely fit my mood back then, and still does more often than I'd prefer.

That's all I had to say really, happy festivities again! We don't officially celebrate Halloween where I live, but I live more on the internet than irl anyway, so I'm really feeling that holiday spirit! P.S. I totally didn't get the idea last second after yesterday's conversation in chat, no way.

This has a very special place in my heart thanks to fight club and mr. robot. I like to listen to this when taking walks in the middle of the night or just lying in bed staring at the ceiling.

Crystal Castles is an interesting band because I hate some of their songs and absolutely love others. Those belonging to thr latter category seem to be more aphex twin/new order influenced, whereas the former seem more chaotic and punkish in nature and lacking a clear structure.
