I want to be able to lucid dream so I can act on my suicidal and/or sh urges without actually doing it and risk all the shitty consequences irl, has anyone tried this? I don't know much about lucid dreaming but I'm scared it won't work or I'll get sleep paralysis or lose control of the dream or I won't be able to kill myself in it, etc. Whenever I've tried to lucid dream it never works anyway. I'm scared of all that stuff so idk what to do, does anyone have any tips?

My personal opinion is that lucid dreaming isn't even a thing. I know some buddhists/yogis etc. claim they can do it, i have a feeling it's just bs; no matter how much meditation they put in, their brain is just like any other brain, governed by physics, chemistry, biology and so on.

Idk, I feel like the idea of someone being able to control their own dreams isn't that insane. EVERYONE who claims to be able to lying is what seems more insane to me.

Well, i think it's insane; during sleep some parts of our brains are inactive; controlling those while one is asleep, it's not technically sleep anymore, maybe some state similar to being semi-conscious and imagining things...for example, one wakes up from their dream but don't open their eyes, they're still too heavy and feel sleepy and while in this state they imagine the next scene of their dream. Not sure if i make sense at all.

lucid dreaming is a thing, confirmed by scientific studies, and there are techniques to achieve it. i have had lucid dreams in the past, even on accident.

however when you try to do something like ctb in your dream, it's very much possible that you will not be able to do it. if you try to do something too extreme in the dream you might wake up. of course the only way to be certain would be to try it.

I noticed that in dreams the heavy emotional baggage is sometimes less (sometimes more). Maybe you could use lucid dreams to do something you really like?

That's so unfair. I have tried but been unable to lucid dream at ALL so I guess I'll never know. Scared to try again due to sleep paralysis risk.

Suicide without the consequences is what I'd really like.

i need to practice lucid dreaming again, i've been wanting to do the same thing as you in them. most of my lucid dreams are accidental, usually triggered by something scary happening that snaps my consciousness into thinking "hey wait, im dreaming!" then i can take control over the dream, changing the scary thing into a good thing, and trying to stabilize the dream basically before i wake myself up (i have a habit of getting too excited when i realize i am lucid and in control, which then wakes me up lol)

meditation can help a lot, as well as doing "reality checks" throughout the day, like looking down at your hands to count all your fingers and see if you got all 10, giving yourself a little pinch to check if you're awake, there's other tricks too but you basically do that multiple times a day until its habit, then in your dreams if the habit happens in there it should trigger you to be lucid

there's other tricks as well, like setting an alarm for like 3am or whenever you would be in deep sleep, turn off the alarm and go right back to bed but try to keep your mind awake while your body falls asleep. you might feel the urge to twitch or scratch an itch, that is your body testing to see if you're awake still, ignore it and stay still and eventually you wont be able to feel your limbs anymore or your entire body, and hopefully you start to dream in an already aware state

I've been lucid dreaming the last few weeks since I had two instances when I may have jumped.

I don't know the relationship with suicidal ideation, if any.

Maybe it because I am drinking heavily, and my sleep patterns are disrupted.

I feel most at peace when asleep.

I've heard it called the "little death".

Going to sleep and not waking up seems very attractive now.

It's amazing when I used to do it. Now I won't be able to. It's sad that I can't because of my life circumstances just imploding but the freedom within lucid dreaming is amazing. I don't recommend doing sh within lucid dreams since mine were all peaceful.

i only had this once, ... but not really interested in it... I mean it's cool for once maybe, but every night ?
I think this would be exhausting... I don't know if this is really a thing, for health you know what I mean ?
I need my sleep my dreams, for rest.. When I have a lack of sleep, or don't sleep deep.. I don't feel good. so..
and I think it's because of the dreams.. you need them to rest.. to delete and order things..
but when you every night would be capable to do whatever you want in you dream, will you then really be asleep that deep ? I don't know... i would not think so.
but yeah people could maybe train this... when they are really interesting.. I only hear thing like you should remind youself, when you are awake , I don't know what, you need to search for this ;)
and then some day, it will be like you check this in your dreams, and then it's lucid. when you realize oh I'm dreaming ;)

I've thought about this before as well. It's like the game OMORI, right?
Pretty sure it's possible but it would probably take a lot of effort on your behalf. There's people who lucid dream easier than others, and there's people who have dreams more vivid than others. You'd have to build the habit of lucid dreaming first in order to do something like this.

Lucid dreaming is amazing but it takes a ton of practice. If you're really interested, theres many lucid dreaming forums out there with tons of guides. The biggest thing tbh is keep a dream journal. Everytime you dream, write in it instantly. It tells the brain your dreams are important and they'll get very vivid after a while.

You only really get sleep paralysis if you try and force lucid dreaming through the WILD method. I havent tried WILD because sleep paralysis sounds incredibly scary to me.

Ive also been drinking Mugwort and Blue lotus tea before going to bed, mugwort helps to sleep and Blue Lotus has psychoactive properties to make lucid dreams more vivid.

To make something like Omori, you need a ton of practice. Persistant realms are really cool, and ive been trying to make one for a while, but very difficult to do.

Used to do that all the time, but the thing of it was, that "responsibility" came crashing down on me heavily, which limited the time I had to meditate and practice some dimensional jumping exercises, making me suicidal, then my whole GERD incident which made meditation impossible, rendering me trapped in this world if I don't do something about it (which I did and solved the problem by its roots, if I wanted my method to work).

To this day, I always imagined dreams to be part-time realities, for they feel as real as this reality.

i was not expecting to see a thread about lucid dreaming when i opened sasu today. I used to be SOOOOOO into lucid dreaming when i was younger! I love it so much! While I was never able to make myself lucid consistently, doing all the exercises like journaling my dreams and repeating mantras before bed made my dreams feel way more clear and vivid, which made falling asleep feel so fun because since they were so vivid and clear it felt like watching a movie or playing a game every night.

I havent done anything like that in years so sadly my dreams are no longer that vivid. biggest tip of advice i can give you if you wanna practice getting lucid is firstly that it takes time. im talking anywhere from a week to a month of constantly writing down your dreams, doing reality checks, and repeating mantras before sleep, just to see some results. And also, your first couple lucid dreams wont be all that interesting. if you try to do anything crazy, you'll most likely just excite yourself too much and wake up. No running around flying through the sky, no fighting evil monsters, and no dream sex.

Your first time becoming lucid, just try to stay calm and observe your surroundings. if things start to feel blurry or you feel like your losing the dream, just crouch down and feel the ground while trying to ground yourself in the current moment. trying to change too much can cause you to wake up so just go with the flow of the dream while trying to maintain your lucidity.

Another tip i can give you is be really careful about rumors. The thing about dreams is that they're all in your head (literally). If you do something in a dream, it will play out exactly how your mind expects it to play out. If you eat a dish you've never tried in real life, it will just taste however you think it's supposed to taste. And cause of this, its easy for dumb rumors to spread around and explode because people read about them online and then because they read them, they think thats how thiungs work and in turn, they end up working that way.

For example, one common myth that i hate is "Never look at your reflection in a mirror in a dream cause if you do then your reflection will be a monster, or it'll come to life and kill you, or some other stupid stuff". It's just your reflection. it'll look exactly how you want it to look. Ife looked at my reflection in mirrors in dreams tons of times, the weirdest thing that ever happened was my reflection was all wet and thats probably because the most often i am looking at my reflection is after i get out of the shower.

the best way to get started with lucid dreaming is to keep a consistent dream journal. Before you go to sleep, repeat a mantra to yourself about how you're gonna remember your dreams tonight. Then when you wake up, immediately start writing down as much as you can before you start forgetting, because trust me. You WILL forget quickly. Sometimes you might forget details when you wake up but then remember them later, write those down too as you remember them. even if you never achieve lucidity, doing this will make your dreams appear much more vivid and clear which imo makes sleep and dreaming alot more fun.

as for things you can do in dreams, pretty much anything with enough time and patience. it'll take a while to get used to things to the point where you wont excite yourself awake, but once you do, you can basically think of it as having your own little vr sandbox game in your head.

Also i thought id bring this up cause it feels like its related, once in a dream i had a long time ago i was running away from the police because i got framed for a crime and pretty much the entire police force was after me. at the end of the dream, i ended up getting shot in the head and dying and it felt really weird. I just went fully limp and slumped over. couldnt move, couldnt feel anything, but i could still see. then it went third person for a bit, then i woke up. I also had another dream where i died in it, but then i ended up waking up in my bed, but i was still in the dream.

lucid dreaming is amazing and i wish you the best of luck on your journey. <3

I had a similar idea; however, as ossn as I became lucid in my dreams, I was attacked from every entity existing in the dream until I woke up.

I've sense tried to use a more subtle approach. I would come to the conclusion conclusion I was dreaming, but instead of controlling the world, I started with simple taste. Like look at the ceiling in the 2 story house I was in. The ceiling went on forever. It was beautiful.

I was able to continue to level of control while lucid dreaming, but as soon as I took it a step forward and actively changed something, the experience rejected it and booted me off drowning me killing me, dropping me and the like.

It's like I wasn't allowed to be lucid dreaming with control.

I wish I could see what I dreamt of to begin with. I remember concepts, locations, and I can describe what things looked like, but I can't actually see them due to my aphantasia, and it really fucking sucks.

Yeah I've heard that a lot which is why I'm scared to try. Being able to control the dream is the whole point, if I can't then why even bother? Might as well have regular dreams then.

I once made the mistake of putting a stop smoking patch on before I went to sleep, assuming by morning that I would not crave a cigarette when I woke up.

I don't remember what I dreamed that night, but it was extremely lucid and when I woke up, it felt like I controlled the dream.

Do you think the scary shit and loss of control would happen if instead of ctbing in a lucid dream, I did the opposite? Like lucid dreaming that life is amazing and everything is okay, or being comforted without having to tell anyone irl.

I've only become lucid a couple times, and not enough to really do much with it. Managed to start floating the first time I did though, that was pretty cool.
