For real, life would be so much better if we died in our mid 20s, like I could hang on for that long, try to make the most out of life and shit.

Domesticated pets like cats and dogs are afforded dignified deaths when they become old and sick.

Yet humans are kept alive artificially to extract as much money as possible. End of life care is big business.

We were only really mean to live to our 30s at best. Modern medicine prolonged this two fold.

This graph only includes the industrial era when working hours increased dramatically and people were enslaved and worked to death in colonies and factories...

I think life expectancy was only charted the past few hundred years. I found a chart dating from the early 1500s (200 years before the industrial revolution) and it looks about the same.

Ah ok. Yeah life expectancy lowered a lot in the agricultural era. Hunter gatherers lived longer.

I think that's the problem here.

For instance, if I had been told I was gonna die at my 25s, no matter what I did, I might've tried to live life to the fullest instead of being suicidal since I was 12 because I would've just been like "Well, this world kinda sucks but, what about enjoying it? There's not much time left after all..."

That's why I've said a couple of times that if I had been born thousand of years ago and been a caveman, I would've probably had a decent life and maybe died as a hero while fighting a tiger lol.

However, we're born in this world in which unless you have any kind of illness, you'll probably live until you're 80 at least!!!!!!!!
OMG!! Who wants to be 80!? Who really wants to get older, weaker, sicker, maybe develop alzheimer and other stuff?

Isn't life just...too long?
I think we human as mortal beings are perfectly accepted to die (suicide or naturally) around the age when Jesus was crucified at the age of 33 and half (33 1/2) years old.

Oh yeah! I always forget I am Jesus's age!
It would be really nice to ctb now. I know I can still experience some awesome things such as love again or go to Japan but I don't know if I'll be able to do it!

My whole family pitches in to take care of my 90 year-old grandma. As the only female helping out regularly, it's up to me to bathe her. As I give her verbal commands one-by-one like she's a dog to move her from the living room to the bedroom to the bathroom to the shower (it's a long process), I think about how much the woman I knew when I was younger would never have wanted to live this way. She's stuck in diapers, has people wiping her ass, and lives within about 5-10 second increments. The only good thing is that she has lost the ability to ruminate. Still sundowns like a bitch though.

Yeah no, this is incredibly misleading.

Life expectancies were that low because infant mortality used to bring the average down. The life expectancy of someone who's healthy and already made it to adulthood hasn't changed all that much between the 1800s and today. Even in isolated tribes today, there are very, very old people. Humans were not meant to die in their 30s.

Replying to OP, I'd agree life is too long, or more accurately the only potential enjoyable period is too short. That period usually being somewhere in early to mid 20s, when you have that mix of social + financial independence, and health/youth. Life before and after that is lame and there's not much point in living it.

yes, it is. I have no idea why they're trying to prolong our lives any longer than they already are and why the hell people would want to live any longer than they already have to.

But it takes into account infantile mortality...

If you replace by "life expectancy for people who already lived until 20", you get between 40 and 60 years old before modern medicine.
It "only" prolonged it by 20 years if you don't take into account infantile mortality.

Yes, life is too long, the modern man has too much time only waiting for death. The world´s oldest man was Mbah Gotho in Indonesia, he died in 2017 when he was 146 years old. Mbah Gotho suffered of old age and wanted to die for many ears, he survived four wives and all his children. The body begins to grow old after we are 25, so I do not believe that humans are supposed to live more than 50 years. I never wanted to be old, the worst thing that can happen. Maybe it was better when all humans lived in nature 11 000 years ago, death came suddenly. When we have healthcare and medicine, most people die of old age or age-related diseases. And people are afraid of death, they do anything to avoid death.

I'm not necessarily scared of getting old, I just hate the idea of being trapped on this planet longer. I wish we all died at 15 or 20 or so. It would make life feel so much more meaningful. "Well we only have a couple more years left, let's live life to it's fullest"

Yeah, they are also prolonging the worst period of life - old age.
We have so many sick, disabled, old people stuck in their beds, shitting in diapers, all miserable and in pain. God forbid we'd let them die - not in our civilized society! We're gonna pump them up with several different drugs every day! See, life expectancy went up once again, we're advancing as species, technology is saving lives!

What a load of horseshit.

It's relative imo. Most wealthy and successful people might think life is too short, while suicidal people like me most likely wish human life expectancy to be cut by half.

Right!!?? Who wants to be that old that you shitting yourself. Imagine having nobody to visit you at that age :( I hope I get to stay in The Netherlands so I can have the choice to die when I am that old. I dated a guy last year who's grandma was euthanised - planned with the whole family saying goodbye first and then peacefully passed away. What a dream!

Is life long or short? Is a piece of string long or short? As has been said here before, the perception is totally based on your amount of pain and suffering. If I had so much to live for... it would feel so short and truly when I have had moments of happiness and hope, for brief moments felt short but those were illusions for me and majority of the time its been pain and suffering. I wish it would speed up so I can drop off. But even some of my "non-suicidal" friends say they don't want to live long. One says she wants to take a pill after 60 so she can die peacefully... and I laugh inside and think... Whos gonna tell her ;) :P

Becoming 80 sounds extremely horrible for me. I think my life quality will deteriorate. Pretty sure I gonna end it before and not dying a natural death. Life became pretty hard since 5 years. I am still young I don't wanna imagine how many manic/depressive/psychotic episodes I would have to endure in the next decades. My grandmother was severly ill (just like me). I don't want to end like her.
My suicidality has an inner logic. After a psychotic episode I am very suicidal and after every episode I become more suicidal. I might be only a matter of time.
me to a T. just had my biggset psychotic episode yet and lost everything. i had been rebuilding after previous psychosis 2yr ago and doing well but this time ended up sectioned twice, arrested twice, lost everything. all i feel is shell-shocked now as i await arraignment in the coming weeks and possible jail time. never felt this suicidal in my life but i don't know if i'm compatible with this world. thinking of getting old makes me imagine myself on the streets with other mentally ill abandoned by their family-only my dad is supporting me right now and im 35yo. just taking meds and surviving for no reason and probably unable to work...i dunno, not how i pictured life.

At least time speeds up the older you get. That said, I used to want to live forever...until I lost my health. Now I'm ashamed of myself for not having the guts to end this nightmare.
