Try ordering sodium nitrate and reducing it to nitrite using a bit activated carbon and a gas burner with a temperature of minimum 1100 °F, do it at a ventilated location. It is called thermal decomposition: NaNO3 -> NaNO2 + O2. Make sure you test the purity with a nitrite ion test kit afterwards.
