I'd already be dead if I hadn't meet certain persons here, one of whom became my best friend.
Sadly, I think her parents and most of the world will blame the SS forum and believe that the "toxic" people on this forum planted these thoughts in her mind.We have been following the story regarding one of our forum users committing suicide.
Her name was Callie Lewis.
They're using her to push censorship of this site.
There was some press surrounding this suicide and she ended up using a method that was allegedly posted on this forum and she took her own life. We gave an interview to a journalist that was going to be used to give a skewed and one-sided view of this whole issue. We anticipated the release of this "media project" and we believe that this is the result of such a project.
Instead of trying to address the problems that she had in her life; they instead want to remove any place of support for anyone that's suicidal. It makes my blood boil to hear that journalists still want to censor information when their job is to do the opposite; To report fairly and objectively, not to play the blame game. We were mentioned in a coroner's report at the end of last year with the coroner (which was biased) recommending that something is done to this very website to the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport. That date has passed and no visible action has been taken. Callie's parents have hired a law firm to pursue this to no end. This leads us to the documentary about Callie being released very recently. I have not watched it yet as I haven't had the time to do so, but I assume that it's full of the same usual pro-life BS and further attempts to prevent the spread of information.
As per the usual, there's probably no discussion about how many people this forum has probably helped or perhaps saved, but only the talk about those that end up taking their lives. We believe that any individual has the right to take their own life if they so choose, but that has somehow turned into a pro-suicide position to them. They will not accept any less than the total annihilation of this website and websites like this one that does allow suicide methods to be posted. The UK government doesn't give a shit about you. Hell, hardly any government gives a shit about their citizens. Mental health treatments are a big joke almost everywhere and everyone knows this. You can take your SSRI's but if your life situation is still shit; They don't mean anything. Therapy is a joke. Anything else isn't worth giving a mention because it's either ineffective or doesn't work.
There are even mentions in the news from Callie's parents or someone representing them about this site selling goods directly to people to kill themselves. That accusation is simply false and doesn't take long to verify. We should ask why these "journalists" run with this maliciously false information and the editors that allow this bullshit in the first place. There are other claims such as people encouraging people to kill themselves here - which is blatantly false especially in Callie's case. I'm pretty sure they would have pulled posts from here if this was even remotely true.
These people believe that censoring the information is the solution but the fact of the matter is that most of the information posted here is easily found elsewhere on the internet. They'll never prevail with censorship and we will fight every one of their attempts to do so, even if that means having to take drastic measures to do so. We will fight hard to preserve freedom of information and speech.
To end this, I want to present the words of Callie herself. These are the final words that were posted on her Tumblr blog right before she took her own life and it's something that her parents should read and take to heart.
I can totally understand how when someone kills themself, we want to look for BLAME. We want someone or something to ANSWER, and it seems like her parents want us to be that answer. It's hard to think rationally when someone commits suicide. But... this site is a mix of helping people find peace and sometimes saving people. I hope that they find a better answer. We have been following the story regarding one of our forum users committing suicide.

Can I get this hung up on my wall? You're speaking so many true things i've tried to articulate. What I find very telling is how her friends Jan says at one point in the interview: "She either had to live or die, so it was easy: she had to live."
She had to live! See... What do you think, how does that feel to a person who sees themselves as an autonomous, free person?
Also they say Callie felt betrayed by her friend. Are they implying that she falsely felt betrayed? Of course she felt betrayed! She disclosed an immensely burdensome inner struggle to her best friend who then proceeded to call the authorities on her so she can be institutionalized. Smh

The father: "The truth is not something which hurts."
Well, let's hope he can keep his delusions going strong!!

Wow. They are so oblivious. They don't give a fuck about her, all they are able to see is their own pain; it is their own pain in losing her that matters, and that's why her suicide has to be prevented. "There's always a solution." Oh okay... Like locking people up and sedating them, taking their freedom from them just so that some dipshit oblivious egotistical parents won't have to finally see through their own denial? Just so that they don't have feel bad, feel a fraction of the suffering that their daughter went through?
She must suffer so they can continue living in their rose coloured world.
---------------
So, what was the "harmful content" they kept talking about? All they quoted was someone saying "May you be at peace" and someone telling her how to interact with institutional powers who were trying to forcibly detain her against her will. Wow if that's harmful content... And that's the best they could find?

Does anyone know where we would go if this website was shut down...?
Quarentined? What do you mean? There is a subreddit called Timetogo or something similar. It's quarantined but you can still post there.
Controversial areas of reddit are hidden from regular searches, won't ever show up on the front page, and a few other restrictions.Quarentined? What do you mean?
Marquis, it's probably a good idea not to give interviews, because no matter what you say, they will indeed spin it in a way to make SS look like the bad guys.
I also concur about governments not giving a shit about it's people, irregardless of which nation. Government is simply a machine that serves the ruling class, all of whom would just assume be rid of us plebs anyway.
And journalists are a fucking joke. It's not a real job—just glorified parrots.
I didn't realize there was a documentary about Callie. Is it web based or strictly via British television?
Thanks. I took a look, the presentation criticizes the NHS as well as SS. It blames the system for allowing her to fall through the cracks, which to me is disconcerting, because the common response to this is more hardcore statist control over people. Such outcry could result in a future where the 'mental health' department has draconian power to throw anyone in a loony bin and keep them there indefinitely, and the implications of that alone is cause for concern e.g.: manual labor enslavement—maybe the prisoners will get to make designer shoes for a posh brand.Someone put it on Daily motion

Prolife agenda is more important than the suicidee's suffering.

I wanted to seek information on how I can end my life (previous attempts) with dignity and as peacefully as possible if anything to spare my family and friends a little of the pain of me passing in a more brutal fashion.
Absolutely. I avidly agree with the point that's been made for rational ending of life without the assumption that I am not of sound mind. Why should I be pressured into living an existence that no longer provides me with pleasure or hope?! I will not be forced to live for another potentially 30 years, the thought of that fills me with utter dread. It is your choice and your moral right as far as I'm concerned. I think it's laudable to want to die with dignity and prepare a peaceful exit, both for oneself and others. Obviously this should not be construed as encouragement: I can't and won't be the judge on someone-else's quality of life and decisions.
The problem is that the Constitution has become mere words on paper anymore. So there is really nothing to prevent the site from getting blocked if the system really wanted it shut down.I do not think this site can ever be shut down, at least in United States, it would be in direct conflict with our bill of rights and freedom of speech.
I personally came to this site having already made the decision to ctb.
This site has in NO way whatsoever encouraged, coaxed, coerced or suggested for me to end my life, if anything it's the opposite. People that don't consider suicide would not actively seek a site such as this in my opinion.

what the f... is wrong with society. They were not able to help her since she was 7 years and now they are blaming this website. There are million people committing suicide every year without any access to information from this site. Instead of solving the root causes of suicide, society started to invent medicine for mental illness which only increases the desire to commit suicide. If the person feels unbearable to stay alive what is the need to keep him alive. Everyone dies today or tomorrow. What advantage is that going to add to the earth if he stay for one more year? In my opinion humans have far less dignity to die than all living things.
That is true. The USA is falling apart. Also internet providers could choose to block it too.The problem is that the Constitution has become mere words on paper anymore. So there is really nothing to prevent the site from getting blocked if the system really wanted it shut down.
There is NO ONE to talk to about this subject. Family and friends if people have any, cannot be expected to understand, acknowledge or deal with the guilt that these conversations entail. There are no mental health professionals available. I have been under mental health for over 2 years and I see NOBODY. Talk to NOBODY and at best get an answerphone message when I call the CRISIS team. WHERE are people like us able/safe to talk about such things other than here?Well said. Same for me too.
Yes and they want to take away the only place we can talk about Suicide away. They don't want to allow us even one website out of the billions on the internet to talk with like minded people. Why are they doing this to us people who are desperate hurting to take away the only place of solace and hope for a painless passing. I had decided to commit suicide long ago before i found this site. This website just gave me hope for a more painless passing. And i found finally somewhere where people validated some of my thoughts that i didn't hear out there in the matrixI personally came to this site having already made the decision to ctb.

I feel the exact same way. I had a hospital visit that required me to wait 16hrs then be quizzed by the "psychiatric team", it was likeThere is NO ONE to talk to about this subject.
