Society went to shit after the hippies arrived. Each decade the filth rises higher. Modern rappers tattoo their faces like their MS-13

Ugh, being upset at hippies is so dumb. And if you want to kill yourself because rappers have face tattoos, then... that's not a very compelling sentiment.

The whole " DAE le mainstream culture is so diseased u guise?" is such a generic edgy teenager sentiment.

I think our culture is toxic, but I've thought this for a long time, and no amount of adjustment on my part will make it comfortable to live in because I can't accept the paradigms on which it is based. Some thrive, some fail, some merely exist.

I'm a failure and I blame myself but also what was done to me by a culture that values style over substance, rewards blatant status seeking behavior, and neglects the most vulnerable while claiming to value "life".

Look up postmodernism, that's what is being pushed on us these days. The unraveling of society is no accident. You break down morals, break down the nuclear family, multiculturalism, brainwashing about history in public school, promoting of white guilt as if we are responsible for all the inequalities of the world lol! Basically we aren't being educated well these days about reality.

You complain about the OP being generic, and yet the thrust of your post lies in the phrase "edgy teenager."

Yes, thank you for noticing how it is fitting to use a generic descriptor for someone who displays a generic sentiment which is closely associated with that descriptor.

Well done, little buddy.

It's cute that you edgy teenagers so passionately defend each other, but please go see your high school counselor when school starts again.
Go to r/suicidewatch. That's more your crowd.

If anything it gives me entertainment to stick around.

The attention 'whoring' (can I use that word?) of the social media age is a bit disturbing but whatever, it was always within us.

Any kind of generalizations are pointless. The 60s gave us 'hippies' and a high-point of modernist art, incl. abstract expressionism. The 70s were a wastral of drugs and free love but also gave us a golden age of American cinema. People hate the slackers of the 90s, but they also birthed Nirvana who remain relevant to this day. Rappers might plaster their faces with tattoos, but since the early 2000s (and before that) rap has remained one of the most vital, progressive forms of artistic expression. If you want to attack anything about today, at least make it the fact that video games and superheroes and 'fanships' are threatening to completely homogenize mainstream culture. And that's still not something I'd kill myself over.

@Volatile Surely I'm not the only one that sees the irony in you making this thread while having an icon from a mainstream show.

It isn't the primary reason, but it it's sure as hell on my top ten list.
I don't know if it's the audience that social media provides (I don't partake) but people have gone off the deep end.

postmodernism is probably the best thing that ever happened to literature and I will defend this to the death just saying

I agree completely. Well and succinctly put.

Oh come on.

Your issue isn't postmodernism, your issue is progress and change within society. You wanna go back to the days where only man and woman with 2 children were considered family, where people of color were considered inferior and segregated, where homosexuality was considered a sickness and lgbt youth sent to conversation camps? Yeah... tell me more about the good old days.

As a trans person, I can't express anything but disgust. What do you think would have happened to me, back in your good old days? But of course, this shit comes from a white person, talking about white guilt.
Hi-la-rious. You know, speaking of education...proper education would work wonders for your ignorant and narrow-minded worldview.

For me, I dislike how smartphones are leading to more and more of surveillance state. I don't mind to some extent a nanny state, but there's a line in the sand, and I don't like where tracking is going. Soon even sites like this may be totally outlawed if they weren't already, you feel where I'm going here? Yeah. So while I love most modern technology and stuff, there are things I've disliked the last few years like the spread of way too many apps and hacking and maybe a little social decline in some areas. Religion also seems like it will never go away, or be replaced by militant science/militant atheism/ or something militant and brainwashing as bad as religion was.

Depends on what you mean by culture.

If you mean superficial traditions, I would question that as a justification. But if you mean a society's ethical zeitgeist, sure.

It seems that escaping something so important and pervasive that you don't wish to be a part of and cannot otherwise escape is a reasonable justification for ending your life, especially if you have no other means of escaping it, such as moving to a culturally different country.
