So many people get on a soapbox about how suicide is never an option, and about how things can get better.

I just don't see how it matters? Why should it matter at all what's "possible"? Why does vague hope oblige you to stay but no amount of suffering obliges anyone else to care for you?

Death is irreversible, sure, but so is creating life, or having surgery or a number of other choices. Irreversibility alone isn't enough to say something is *never* an option.

I just don't get why suicide is never an option. Some people will literally justify murder (in self defense) and STILL say suicide is unacceptable.

Doesn't make any sense at all.

Let those people who say that suicide is never an option suffer the life I had for just 1 month (not 20 years), they would probably change their opinion in a hurry. People who say suicide is never an option are ignorant people who are having good lives.

My mum has said this to me before.

I think the reason why a lot of people say this (and other similar sentiments) is because they cannot see this world as anything other than this happy, bubbly place that is so heckin' awesome and you should be grateful to be alive, and simply cannot fathom how someone might not see it that way.

A lot of people also like to parrot the "pain is temporary, quitting is forever" statement, which is so invalidating and inaccurate I don't even know where to begin in explaining why it's just something you should not say to a suicidal person.

God, yeah, how can you say that "pain is temporary" to someone whose life is nothing but?

I absolutely believe life can be beautiful. But beauty is NOT the default. Many, many people struggle in difficult situations with no way out.

People only say that who want others to be tortured as much and for as long as possible, it truly is such terrible extreme cruelty how many humans want to do all they can to force others to suffer in this torturous, cruel existence where there is no limit as to how much agony one can feel, for me ceasing to exist is the positive solution to find peace from the torture and cruelty of existing.

All want is to be permanently unconscious finally free from all pain and suffering in this existence I just always saw as a mistake, anti-suicide truly is just horrific extreme cruelty, forcing people to suffer in this existence is such a terrible crime to me, all that these people do is cause way more harm and torture.

I think that most people don't realize how dystopian this world is. It's honestly kind of annoying how extremely optimistic some people are. At some point what they say is just invalidating.

I'd reckon for most people, it's because it's been hammered into their heads since they were young. It's a knee-jerk reaction from a lifetime of conditioning to think a certain way. There's a lot of other examples of these types of deeply engrained beliefs, anti-suicide is just one among many.

If you were to actually sit them down and dismantle every single one of their arguments as to why they think suicide is "never an option," you'd eventually hit the wall of "well it just is." That's where arguments like these tend to bottom out because they hold so little water against actual scrutiny.

I know I'm so sorry I wish we could all have the right to a painless way to exit I've been suffering so much I don't think most people have felt this agony or can even imagine it I have to find a way to stop this brutal pain I keep trying to figure it out but I can't do anything and I can't find anyone who can help I know no one would want to risk it for me and I wouldn't want anyone in trouble for me but why do I see stories of doctors and people who have done it and gotten away with it I see people who have VSED but I can't do it without support I see people getting MAiD all the time but not in my state yet I can't travel I wish I could I would have saved myself so much pain I would go to Switzerland or just go take N in Peru I wish I thought about what to do if I got sick and planned like some people I don't know anyone who did personally I just see so many people have now that I have searched right to die groups why can't I find someone who has MAiD from someone who didn't use it? Why can't I figure out something I can do? So many people have gone missing, I still belong to a group where I used to help when someone was missing, but lately they are found having ctb. Today a woman was found in the water. I understand the pain it takes to do that. People have been jumping off overpasses, a kid off a bridge. I know this is morbid and I did used to be very positive and I always helped others but why has it gotten so bad that so many people are suffering that much. I have physical illnesses that broke my body down, I have no quality of life of course I have anxiety and depression now but I know some medications have caused serious problems for me. Doctors prescribe when they should take the time to realize it's a side effect and they should tell us when meds are for short term use but they don't. I'm so worried about the stress of how expensive it is to live and how out of control crime is but our food isn't healthy, air ,water, even the noise from the new planes and trains and how frequent effects the quality of life in my area now. I can see why it's so much harder on young people today. I grew up in a much safer, kinder, cleaner environment. It's not easy to protect your health with everything about the profit and not caring about what is in your food or if medication is pushed when they know it's not safe. I see psych meds and ozempic being pushed and people getting so sick. I can't take the physical pain anymore but everything is getting worse. The drug company's have helped make people sick we should have the right to use the meds to end the suffering. Sorry, that was a long rant and it just makes me angry and sad to not be able to have the right to those meds!

I think this belief mostly stems from our fear of death and how irreversible it is. People fear nonexistence or a potential after life so much to the point they believe it could never be an option for anyone. Even though it is something we will all inevitably experience anyways. They fail to understand that not everyone will get better. And some people are better off putting an end to their pain rather than pointlessly prolonging it.
