Why does height matter this much?

I am of average height more or less. Most of my friends are of average height. I have some friends that are quite tall but I don't perceive them as this much attractive. I also don't understand the appeal of a tall woman. Maybe the reason is that I just don't think this much about it because of the fact that I am just average. I think if someone is below average people tend to inferiority complexes. And if they are above average (depending on person and topic) be are proud of it and get self-esteem from it. Another reason could be that I don't think like an average women about all of that. I think I don't get the appeal of most men in general.

There are studies that people of above average height have advantages to get into top positions in companies. The thing is I probably never thought about this consciously. You might remember Olaf Scholz. I voted for him two times. I didn't care about his height. He is way below average. And now Merz is in office who is pretty tall. But it doesn't change the fact that he is a (censored because of German free speech laws).

Maybe it is something that influences my perception subconsciously. I perceive Merz as quite arrogant. Maybe his height even has a negative impact on my perception of him. But maybe if I actually liked him his height would have a different impact on my perception. Not sure.

I'm not totally sure to be honest. It's not something I've ever really paid attention to, and if the internet hadn't made a big thing of it, it wouldn't have even occurred to me to use it as a standard in dating. Not to say that it's something new; I think it has probably seen as "better" for a long time in human history, but I don't see any evolutionary reason as to why, though maybe it's a failure of the imagination. Presumably being tall would be a survival disadvantage because you require more calories to survive and have less body fat to protect yourself against future famines. So I think it's valued mostly because it's a signifier of social status.

I think maybe we subconsciously associate it with good health and nutrition. I imagine bad of either can stunt growth. I suppose women like tall men because they may like to feel protected. Not that that is a sure indicator of course. Shorter men can be just as strong. But, I suppose they look more intimidating and impressive. We are animals at the end of the day.

I wasn't aware that men did like tall women. I thought young, pretty and slim were the more desirable qualities. Some men hate for their partners to be taller in fact. There's that whole rumour that Tom Cruise prefered his partners to wear shoes with flats so as not to exceed his height.

I've fancied guys of my height- fairly short for a guy- 5ft 6inches and up but- tall height can definitely look impressive/ attractive.

I think there have indeed been studies to suggest taller men are in higher powered/ paying jobs. It is quite bizarre. But then- maybe their height gave them more confidence from the start.

I am over 6 feet tall and that causes a lot of problems, everything is small for me, most tall people suffer from back pain

Since men are greater in stature than women, I'd think tallness is equated with masculinity in the same way that muscularity is and considered attractive for the same reason. I don't think tallness in women is considered conventionally attractive.
