Whats stopping you from using a gun?

Serious question, with several methods to ctb costing into the several hundreds and having high risk to fail why not a shotgun? You can buy a used secondhand one for less than $500 even $200 in some places, me personally I just couldn't imagine even trying that, what about yall?

If I could have I would have. Probably only really an option in the USA, or at a push Canada? Even then you probably need to be in a state with lax laws since most of us have mental illnesses etc and wouldn't be able to get a un

I can't own a gun since I've been hospitalized following ctb attempts. I did have the option to use my dad's gun back when I was living with him. I ultimately didn't do it because it's such a gory aftermath and traumatizing for whoever would find me. Also, I was in group therapy with a man who tried to shoot himself in the head and had a serious TBI. It seemed awful to survive something like that.

I'd be all over that if I lived in the states, but alas, other countries exist where it's not as feasible. Much bigger entry barrier and I've already ruined it for myself anyway by having my poor mental health documented. I don't have the street smarts to do it illegally, and I'd feel too guilty to do it at a gun range.

Are you really not aware of the fact that being able to access a gun depends on location. It's not an option for ctb where I live.

I live in the UK . Maybe not impossible to get one but a lot more difficult I imagine. Plus- I've heard of people missing and just making matters worse for themself. (Maybe not with a shotgun- I don't know.) Plus- the mess it would leave behind for some poor sod to clean up.

That's interesting, I went to the hospital following a ctb attempt over thirty years ago. Not sure that's the same as hospitalized but I had no problem buying guns ten years later. Granted it was in another state.

I believe the law is you have to wait 5 years before being able to purchase a gun following hospitalization. I've still got ~3 years, but every hospitalization just resets the clock.

If I could, I would immediately buy a shotgun and probably blow my head off shortly after. Unfortunately I have the most fucked psych record so there's no way I can legally purchase a firearm.

For me, it's because of the fact I still live with my parents. They watch my spending and activities like a hawk since I let slip that I was suicidal. I tired buying a gun recently. Got really close to actually owning it. I bought it from the store, got approved for my pistol purchase permit. All that was left to do was go down to the sheriffs office and do some paperwork. Pick the thing up from the store with a box of ammo and it would've been bye bye me. Parents found out before that happened and put a stop to all that. Probably barred my ability to ever purchase one from a reputable vendor because they went down to the sheriffs and got my permit denied. I didn't know how much more complicated it was to buy a handgun over a long arm. If I had chosen a shotgun over a .357 revolver maybe I wouldn't be here anymore. Stupid me

the hospitalized they're talking about is being involuntarily committed to a mental hospital. Going to a regular hospital for treatment after an attempt is a different thing entirely. If you weren't forced to go somewhere afterwards then yes there's no added difficulty in getting a gun.

Bro, I like your profile photo. From my point of view, I don't live in the states, so I unfortunately cannot have one. It's the main reason many people choose to other methods. Secondly, some people are afraid of his/her ugly dead corpse. However, gunshot definitely will remain a scary hole in his/her head.

i agree, to me guns are basically a surefire way, i just hate how gatekept they are

Shotgun in the mouth 99%. @locked*n*loaded might have the link. With lots of practice hitting targets and in the mirror or phone camera even higher. Practice really does make perfect. Imo lots of prolife propaganda against methods even sn

I live in a country where guns are just not available. If I had one, I'd likely consider using it, but I would be fearful of doing it incorrectly. I suppose that a shotgun blast to the head is not survivable in anyway, but it would be a frightening experience, I think.

Cannot legally own or purchase a gun due to being hospitalized after a suicide attempt years ago. Although this information was passed to me thru a very unreliable source, and not thru law enforcement and/or doctors. I am unsure of any way I can check without attempting to purchase. Unfortunately attempting to purchase a firearm in the state I live in if I am unable will result in legal consequences.

I own a 9mm, never been my preferred method. I know it usually works (85% success rate) but what if I don't get it right abd I'm some disfigured person with face blown off unable to eat, see, speak, and in vegetative state forever.

I thought about shot to to the heart but sane thing, what if I survive it. You always have to get thru the rbs.

I want to just take a bunch of F or N and die. It is fairly difficult here to obtain, though
