I'm going to do this, but on a much smaller scale. I'm not intending it to be a "retreat" center for internet strangers from SS initially, but just a place where I can go secure my material life and improve my mental health. I have at least one friend who will be joining me for this. I will be moving from a higher COL area to a much lower COL in North America area as a result, but a region that is still safe and has good access to medical care if needed.

I work remotely and with the pandemic I have no reason to stay where I am staying, failing/trying to build a life here rn. I lack certain important skills that may be necessary, but I can do work around the house, I can cook, and I am willing to pick up new skills that are more meaningful for surviving like this (whether it is straight up homesteading or just continuing my remote work and developing additional income streams on the side).

I would ask that anyone who is serious about something like this, is serious about improving their mental health, and more importantly has either a desirable skillset or stable enough income to contribute, to reach out to me and see where the conversation leads.

That sounds really nice, I've thinked about this a lot, and I've done some (not a lot) of research into modes of production others than capitalism, the way I see it this economic system treats us as commodities rather than human beings, and is a lot more focused on our productivity than our happiness and mental health

If y'all are really serious about this, I would probably elect to use a homesteading model of some sort and start to try and collect donations.

Go-fund-me might be a good place to start. There are other avenues as well to collect funds. I am also sure that people would be willing to donate time, skills, and necessities rather than money.

I know if I had lost someone in this manner, I would willingly donate however I could to help others, rather than focusing on getting sites shut down.

I would not model it as a mental health sanctuary or anything else of that sort - just a refuge for people in times of trouble or for people who want to get off the grid.

I would try to keep the gov't out of it as much as possible (ie, do not make it a not-for-profit ). It will get bogged down in a sea of red tape.

Just my 0.02.

Windy. Dry. Coming up on cold!

Windy hmmm.... nice for natural power via windmills.

Coming up cold? Ok, I can conceded to yoga pants and a sweater; however, no shaving the head, nikes, and black track suits. I do think the pods on the space ship are climate controlled (sorry!! dark humor - the Heaven's Gate cult was another senseless tragedy like Jonestown).

I still cannot get over less than 50k for that much land O.O.

Where I live prices for land and homes are astronomical.

maybe if a bunch of us pooled our money and got a grant to build a live-in therapy village we could buy a piece of land somewhere. We could have a farm with fruits, vegetables and animals. we could have individual homes and a communal area for recovery practices, art, music etc. we could eventually have places where people could come and stay for a while if it could help them. Maybe there could be a grant to start a therapy/recovery center like this. I don't know which country, but maybe someone has some ideas? Maybe someone can think about how to access some kind of government money somewhere to do something like this?

eventually it could even be a place where mental health researchers or spiritual researchers could come and give lectures to the wider public, people could come and stay for a while in some kind of therapy retreat. even more healthy people who just wanted to learn about how to live more fulfilling lives. Maybe that could generate income to further the retreat. Maybe this could give some of us some way to use what we know to help others, become more fulfilled ourselves and maybe give us more purpose. Something like an alternative to mental health care as it stands now.

Man, that's the best idea ever. If only people were trust worthy. I've always wanted to live on a non-cult commune, far away from societal bullshit. If only people were trust worthy. Freelandia... suicindia... maine...

That's the beauty of it, you'd be around people who're the same, and you could learn each other.

Yeah, wow. I loved Wyoming when I visited, but that's a whole lot of gorgeous empty prairie to figure out what to do with!

If you go forward with that lemme know, I'm in.
Sounds kinda cultish to be honest but I guess it could fulfill its purpose for some people.
As long as no religion is not involved it's fine by me. A lot of people live like that. I've been searching for ages for a community like that.

As long as we get to shave our heads, wear black track suits, and white Nike Air Jordans!

Land is cheap as hell in Wyoming, granted there's nothing much out there except mountains and snow, you can get 40-100 acres of land for under $50k
I almost chose to move to Wyoming back when I was happy. I guess that I like mountains and snow. :)

Interestingly enough, if I can keep financially afloat for a bit more. I am hoping to open my home to a friend of mine, her daughter, her mother, her boyfriend, her cousin, and her cousin's 2 daughters; all of whom are either facing homelessness or in an abusive situation similar to what I had.

Sighs, I am hoping that if we can all pool what little money we have, we might just be able to make it work. It would give me a chance to get on disability and sue the doctors that destroyed my life through negligence. And it would keep all of us from homelessness (which I know I will not survive).

We will see. I think it will take a lot of adjustment on all of our parts, and while I am very laid back, I have no problem putting my foot down if something untoward happens.

I will also make sure to have an air-tight binding agreement upfront.

I dunno, part of me is just so tired, ill, and damaged I just want to end it all. The only reason I am even thinking of continuing on and doing this is for them, they are all wonderful people who have had so much trauma life.

But I fear that I am being really unrealistic and am not thinking of potential falls. If anyone has any suggestions or thoughts on this, I would be really grateful to hear them.

Thanks and love to you all!!

Not practical. If there have human beings, there always have fights and arguments. As a man, I will ask who can have young and beautiful woman as a life partner. Who need to most of labor? Of course, we may think to choose a leader like most of TV dramas and movies. Alone in the wild is best.

Not customer service. Read carefully. You're in charge of the wardrobe.

This idea isn't feasible for this community for the simple reason that communal living requires a lot of work, and most people here hate working more than anything. After the first two days of novelty and inspiration, everyone will go back to their melancholic unproductive states and everything will fall apart. We'll all become undead and our farm will degrade to a gothic ruin, shrouded by perpetual fog... hey, on a second thought, that sounds pretty cool. Let's do this.
