dont think this counts as dieting, but wtv.
how much weight do you think I'd lose if I stopped eating lunch?
I'm coming up on 240 lbs (5'6, female) and i hate it. i look bad and i dont want fucking heart disease but i cant afford a gym membership or buying my own weights so i need to diet. i cant seem to stick with other diets (keto, vegan, etc) because i get really sick. this seems like the only viable idea. i assume it's really stupid, but I'm more curious because i've settled on the fact im gonna do it anyway.
i know this is sanctioned suicide and not sanctioned eating disorder but im just curious

I don't mean to be rude, but do you eat a lot?
The body has a strong reaction to any disruption in its perceived "normal" food intake. It is like a greedy toddler: if it eats a lot, it expects to be fed a lot, and when it isn't, it will react negatively, causing you to feel sick. The way to circumvent this is by slowly decreasing your food intake so the change isn't immediately obvious to your body. If you stop eating lunch altogether, your body will react strongly and the same symptoms will occur.
Also, you don't need a gym membership or weights to exercise. Even just running is enough—anything that gets you moving.
I hope your self image can improve, and there's no reason to apologize. Good luck!

I don't think anyone can tell. It depends on how you adjust to fewer meals.
Try it, and see if it works. In the end it's about what you eat, how much, and how much energy you burn, in total. Fewer meals could make it easier, or in worst case more difficult.

I've lived off two meals a day for long periods. It's was viable, though I had big meals to compensate.

Your breakeven calories are around 2700 per day. If your normal lunch is 700 calories then , it would take 5 days to lose 1 lb by skipping lunch. There are 3500 calories for every one pound of weight. Have you tried a Whole Foods diet. It's not as restrictive as other like keto and vegan. Also there are a lot of exercises you can do without buying weights or other equipment. Check YouTube for no equipment workouts.

Hi, I'm around 220lbs and only 5'4. Don't let it get you down and don't try to lose weight for someone else's benefit.

I got down to 170lbs a few years ago now, I was more miserable than I am now and put it all back on anyway.

I obviously still have my ups and downs, but it's not about my weight.

Basically, only do it for you, not anyone else. It's how you feel that's important 🫂

Unfortunately too many variables to give an answer. I only eat two meals a day most days, sometimes I only eat one big meal. It is possible to eat more than enough calories in a single meal to cause you to gain weight or at least stay "even" if you aren't getting much exercise.

The only way to reliably lose weight is to watch what you eat, try to eat less in a single meal, and up your exercise. The heavier you are, the more weight you can lose in the beginning even just simply walking. When I have lost weight, I found reducing fat in meals and keeping calories slightly under the recommended amount for daily intake and then exercising as much as I can handle was the only way to do it.

The last time I really tried, I walked... then ran... at first I was only able to run 15 minutes a day... but keep at it and you gain the ability to do more... and as I said, in the beginning if you are heavy you are moving around a lot of weight and that actually results in more significant weight loss in the beginning, which is a good motivator.

Then the trick is to stick with the diet and keep upping the exercise as you go even when the weight loss slows a bit as it becomes more difficult to lose weight the lighter you get.

There's not really a trick to it otherwise.

I've never been a 3-meals a day guy at any point in my life... but when I'm lazy and unmotivated, I can eat enough in two meals to gain weight. Just a little motivation and watching what I eat gets me to break-even and losing weight. I'm just too depressed and don't care right now... but I promise the advice I've given is sound. IF you are motivated to lose weight, the most important things to do are eat better, eat a little less, and exercise way more. And you have to stick at it for the long haul to lose weight and keep it off, if that's your goal.

Your lunch can range from 200cals-2000cals you would need to count calories and stay within a calorie budget.
That will tell you how many calories you need to eat for weight loss based on your measurements and activety level. If you are sedentary you need less calories but if you are active you need to eat more, take into account if you walk a lot or do stuff for work. BTW: this calculator will maybe tell you numbers below 1200cals for weight loss DO NOT do that. It is dangerous to your health and if you somehow don't cause an eating disorder you will gain the weight back because then it is just considered a crash diet.

I'm using this calorie counting app called fat secret and I like it, don't trust the calories it tells you that you can eat it's too much for weight loss, at least for me. Measure your food out, the bag will say 15 chips but the weight will show different.

Start slowly and don't be hard on yourself, that caused me to fail for years. If you can eat 100 calories less than you were that's a win and just keep it going from there. It's been hard but I went from 1800-2000+ calories a day to around 1500 and I've been slowly trying to get to 1200 calories (I'm sedentary).

Eat foods that make you full, empty calories will just make it harder to stay within the calories that you want to eat. If you like soda switch to diet, people can lose a decent amount of weight that way.

Don't pay attention to the scale too much. It's the obvious advice, we didn't gain all this weight quickly so we aren't going to lose it quickly. It's taken me more than 2 months to lose 10 pounds with slip ups every now and then and with the holidays really messing me up lol.

Split the calories you need up into two portions and maybe snacks in between. I recommend snacks it is just helpful for me.

You got this!

Depends on what you have, but I think it's not a smart idea to skip lunch. If you wanna try intermittent fasting, try fasting for X consecutive hours a day mindfully, instead of skipping a meal. For example, a 16:8 diet would be to fast 16 hours a day, and eat your meals in the 8 hour window left of the day. You still gotta do calorie restriction for this to yield any good results though, but I wouldn't recommend anything drastic to start out with. Your basal metabolic rate (the calories you burn through just your bodily functions) comes out to around 1800 calories a day, so if you don't exercise regularly that would be a good amount of calories for a day to lose weight.
You can go lower, just don't go below 1200 calories. Starvation won't fast up weight loss, you'll just end up gaining the weight back unless you have a crazy amount of self-discipline, not to mention the organ issues this could cause.
Also, obviously alongside your calorie intake also watch your macros and micros, having a balanced diet will make dieting so much easier, believe me.

It's generally a very bad habit and rabbit hole to go down through.
You don't need drastic cuts to go into calorie deficit (wich is what will make you lose weight). Weigh the portions of every meal, use less fats (less oils, butter and such) and buy base ingredients instead of pre-made stuff.

Starting price of a gym membership can be a lot of you don't have much money but it's worth it

I've tended to find that skipping meals just made me all the more hungry and liable to binge when I did eat.

I lost a great deal of weight by becoming more knowledgable about food. I found that cutting back on simple carboydrates and opting for complex carbohydrates but less plus loads of veg and protein did the trick. Plus- avoiding sugar and caffeine as much as possible.

I really need to lose weight now though. I feel really awful and it's making life so much harder. Just not in a good headspace for it. It required so much determination.

Fasting can help alot of people drink lots of water and it can also detox your body. Anyhow if you cut out lunch there is a possibility you will be more hungry at eat more at dinner have little effects just try and calculate everything you eat and the exercise you do roughly and try and reach a sustainable calorie deficit to lose fat while still getting enough protein to maintain or possibly gain new muscle. Maybe take a some multivitamins too if you are uncertain about your diet for better general health god bless anyhow I hope this helps 🙏💜
I don't know what diet would work best for you personally as every persons body is slightly different as in different allergies or intolerances to certain food but generally it's best to avoid junk food or ultra processed food if possible and eat lots of meat and veg while still counting calories and maybe avoiding calorie dense foods too but don't be too strict either on your diet as you will be more likely to break it still enjoy yourself if you can find a healthy sustainable way to maintain a calorie deficit you will lose weight and be healthier and happier god bless I hope this helps

If you are concerned about heart health garlic is very healthy for the heart one of the healthiest things for it it's possible to get garlic supplements to take daily which also boosts the immune system keeping you from getting sick and has so many more health benefits or you could also try and incorporate it into your diet. Anyhow I wish you the best and hope you become the best version of yourself 💜🙏🥰

Im skinny lean guy, 5'10, i stay lean consistently because I feel disgust with food at times, but i also force my self to eat. The mindset you approach food with correlates a lot with how the food will taste, When i cook food i tend to enjoy it far more then ordered stuff or food from my parents. I also hyperfocus on other things that distract me from eating. Your weight correlates a lot with your calorie intake and activity level. But no matter how many meals you skip, its easy to break out of the cycle ur used to, try changing the way u view food, train your mind.
