@can'tdoitanymore thank you for the detailed accounts. Would you consider meto or something else to be the right kind antiemetics? Also, you said you vomited on the second attempt, was it a significantly higher amount of propanolol than the first?

No worries if you don't want to respond.

I've had a few propranolol overdoses mixed with alcohol and xanax. 7.2grams propranolol and I think 90mg xanax. First time I did not vomit but was found within 20 mins. I stopped breathing and was intubated and unconscious for a little over 48 hours. Second time wasn't found for 26ish hours. Ended up intubated and in a coma for 4 days in critical condition. My family was told I might not make it through the night. Apparently very low o2 levels, very pale, had aspiration pneumonia and a collapsed lung (I think from falling so hard - propranolol OD makes you faint). I had removed the labels from the bottles so they wouldn't know what I had taken if I was found alive. I found out I was given Narcan by EMTs because of how pale and unreponsive I was they suspected it was an opioid overdose. When I had to go back to the ER (I discharged AMA from ICU and still had pneumonia) they were shocked I was firstly alive and secondly not brain damaged. Caused a lot of pain from falling for months, the chest tube for the collapsed lung was the worst pain I've ever experienced and I kept feeling weak and fainting for several weeks which only caused more problems because I ended up with concussions and staples in my head. Third time I just vomited it all up and was found 30+ hours later unresponsive and had severe nerve damage which is the second most painful thing I have experienced. I would advise against it. It will definitely harm you but your body will try and throw it up and if you survive can cause lasting damage. I used Zofran during the last attempt before I knew the right kind of anti-emetics.

It looks like a terrible experience. I'm glad you got through this without taking lasting damage.

The second time I did take more propranolol than the first (can't remember exactly how much more) but I don't think that is why I vomited. I think my body was just getting used to overdoses if that makes any sense (I had taken several more with different meds before that) and knew to automatically try and expel it. I wouldn't take another propranolol overdose personally. I think it's too unreliable even with antiemetics. There are lots of successful attempts with it which is why I was convinced it would work but as you can see my attempts were very serious and I still survived. Plus I simply can't swallow a large amount of pills anymore. It's like my body just knows what's coming and I can't physically swallow them and crushing it is impossible to drink. So bitter, it burns your mouth.

Also forgot to add the last time when I regained consciousness I had deep scratches all over my chest. Propranolol OD essentially kills you by cardiac arrest but it can also cause asthma attacks and for you to stop breathing. I already have asthma which is very mild and controlled now but when I was little I would scratch my chest if I was having trouble breathing. No idea why or if anyone else does this except my other sibling with asthma. So I can only assume I was doing this either while unconscious or semi-conscious and if it was the latter imagine it was rather uncomfortable and frightening. I have no memory of any of the attempts though as xanax OD causes me blackouts and memory loss for days so I can't tell you how long it was until I lost consciousness any of the times.

@can'tdoitanymore thank you so much. One last question. Do you think alcohol played a role? It is strongly recommended to not take with propanolol.

Thank you. I am very lucky to not have serious lasting damage from it. I did have a wound/pressure ulcer from the second attempt from lying unconscious for so long which turned necrotic and had to spend several months going to a wound clinic for debriding. I now have a huge, ugly scar.
The last one I am extremely lucky. I had nerve damage in my wrist and hand. Neurologist said the nerve tests showed one of the nerves was completely severed and would never heal and others were damaged. I could barely move my fingers and my hand was very weak. It took months of physical therapy and a lot of pain as the nerves "came back" but despite what the dr said it is pretty much back to normal. This is why I personally advise against propranolol. These were very dangerous attempts but I'm still here and had many months of pain because of it and it could have ended up much worse with permanent brain damage.

A role in which part? The severity of the attempts or the vomiting?
I don't know. I didn't drink too much. Probably 3/4 a bottle of wine. Just enough to know that combined with the xanax would knock me unconscious which I hoped would happen before the propranolol caused cardiac arrest. Obviously that didn't happen anyway. I don't think the alcohol made vomiting more likely. That amount of pills will make you vomit either way.
Forget us. Seems like the UK could save a few lives by getting rid of that site. Yikes!
Agreed. That site is what convinced me to take a propranolol OD! How ironic they are saying this site is pro-suicide while that "anti-sucicide" site at least for me instigated an attempt.

It may be better to use SN instead of propranolol. Of course I assume you have access to SN. I have a similar plan. I will inject 2000 mg of propofol 5-10 minutes after I drink SN. I don't know much about midazolam. If midazolam will knock you down, it's a good combination with SN. According to the information I read here and beta blocker overdose case reports, it's a slow process. A large dose of 16 grams, but I still don't know if it speeds up the process. I am aware that I cannot help much. I hope it will be a peaceful exit, man. I think you have the necessary medicines for this.

Edit: I think 150 mg metoclopramide is too much. Of course, this is still not an expert opinion but it can cause very unpleasant side effects.

Thanks for the comments.. I'm not able to get SN in this part of the world. Maybe I could reduce the metoclopramide and add some viagra to increase cardiac demand. Perhaps iv insulin will also be a good idea as well.

Propranolol alone doesn't seem like much of a solid idea..sigh. Thank you for sharing your experience

I've done abit of research.. There have been documented cases of healthcare professionals committing suicide with 2g of lignocaine. Shall add that to my current regimen.

Oral Propranolol 16g, dissolved in warm water (alot of crushed pills to swallow)

IV metoclopramide 100mg for anti emetic purposes

IV fentanyl 0.6mg (6 vials) for respiratory depression

IV dormicum 75mg (6 vials) to knock myself unconscious and respiratory depression

IV lignocaine 3g to cause some arrhythmia

IV medications to be contained in a 500cc normal saline bag. The drip is to start once the oral propranolol has been drunk.

Optional : viagra 100mg to increase cardiac demand

Hope this is a peaceful way of getting it done.

I have overdosed on clonidine before and would have died had my therapist not sent help for me. I will never have access to it again thanks to that attempt and my APRN only recently started allowing me to have full month supplies of my meds. I want to CTB with propranolol because when I tried with clonidine, before I was found, it was so peaceful and easy. It just would take a really long time to get enough propranolol to get 8g. I only have 780mg right now, if I wait about 2.5 more weeks I can get to 1380mg (even that feels too long). I don't want to wait much longer, I cannot. I am wondering what else I can take with the propranolol that will cause it to be more effective. I plan on drinking so I know that'll help a bit. I also have access to meclizine which I'm thinking could help? I've done a small overdose of it before (not a suicide attempt), and I have only 375mg right now. I need help figuring out what else can make this happen. I am on such a low dose of propranolol that it will take ages to get enough that it'll work, and I don't have any other meds that would help potentiate the effects.

Calcium channel blockers potentiate propanol. You can also check propanolol on d r u g s . c o m for what meds it reacts with.

If you're anywhere near the Mexico border you can get propanolol, cc blockers, and meto otc without a prescription.

I live almost as far from the Mexican border that a US state can get. I know calcium channel blockers potentiate it, but is there anything more easily accessible? I don't have a lot of energy right now to do a whole lot.

I gave you a resource and all the knowledge I have on this. Maybe the resource will lead you to something accessible?

I think your propranolol dosage is on the low side.. Meclizine may help to suppress the vomiting but probably not significant to counteract a possible vigorous vomiting response.

Just my 2 cents..

Hey! Can I ask how many mg's of clonidine? Also your height/weight for reference?
I take .2mgs every morning for anxiety

Hi. I have read this whole thread and I'm wondering if Toprol ... which is a beta blocker...would work in the same way as propranolol. Anyone know? Thanks.

I'm 5'5 and around 105lbs, 70x40mg pills was enough for me to flatline in December. I was unconscious by the time I was found seizing, cardiac arrest is what caused me to flatline. To save me I was put into a medically induced coma, my family were warned of brain damage and I was still expected to die until I woke up so I'd imagine brain damage is likely if you survive and I got pretty lucky. I didn't use antiemetics, mix them with any other drug or crush them, I just swallowed them all with a glass of water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. I don't remember being in pain before I lost consciousness either so painless as far as I'm aware.

Just adding that it was actually an effort for the nurses to pull me out of this attempt, took 2 ambulances, 40 mins of chest compressions, intubation, coma, etc. I think this is a pretty reliable way to go. I was told by paramedics when I went back a month after for heart related issues (probably due to this attempt) that they all expected me to die & the first one to treat me cried when she saw me alive. If I am to CTB I'll use propranolol again.

Tell your doc you'd like to try it as you suffer physical anxiety symptoms of specifically adrenaline flushing, heart palpitations etc.

How about propranolol with SN? With Domperidone as antiemetic? I'm buying 40 pills of 40 mg each. How much propranolol to not only not have a racing heart, but to slow it?
