I have read several literature on suicide, and none of the books ever recommend hanging as the method of choice. Why is that? Even though, it is the most widely used suicide method, with a success rate of 70%.

I don't think I would be able to fight off the survival instinct, if I go with this method. A few years back, I almost drowned once, and it was terrible..the body goes crazy when it cant breathe. So, it is basically the same thing with hanging, you cut off oxygen to the brain.

What do you guys think?

On the lostallhope website they give an agony level of 79 to drowning and only 25 to hanging in comparison (out of 100 I think). I think this is because if done right hanging will compress the carotid arteries and result in a quick loss of conciousness. For some people these arteries are easy to compress and hanging can be virtually painless, others are not so lucky
