i fucking hate the mental healthcare system

back in 2016 I had an extremely violent attempt (cut my throat open) and was involuntarily committed to a psych ward. it made me much more depressed, as I spent over a month there. for the rest of that year, I was in and out of several psych wards for attempts because my experience there was so traumatizing. 7 years later and I'm going through the absolute worst depression of my life and don't even have an easy way out because I'm not allowed to purchase a firearm. mental health care needs to be better provided. it shouldn't be something that makes you feel worse than when you went in to get "help."

Unfortunately the system is working exactly as intended. Their goal is not to sincerely & effectively treat mental health issues. It's all pretty corrupt & rotten.

The first time I was admitted to a mental hospital I was in my teens. They slacked on several things they were supposed to be providing, we didn't go outside once (and weren't allowed to, we just had an indoor gym made of fucking concrete with no windows), and they just tried to peddle drugs onto nearly every patient there. The only one-on-one interaction I had with a doctor there it was literally just a conversation for them to suggest prescriptions to me. I said no, but got subtly threatened that they'd have to "extend" my stay there if I didn't. Still declined. They only cared about making more money, longer stays = more money, manipulating/pressuring people into taking prescriptions = more money for the drugs. Not a single effort was pooled into actually treating/helping anyone there.

Apparently the entire time I was there my mom was calling everyday, multiple times a day. I never knew this until afterward. They would constantly give her excuses & lies as to why I wasn't available or she couldn't talk to me. She eventually got on their nerves enough that they let her talk to me, she asked if I wanted to stay and I said no. She spoke with them on the phone that she was going to come pick me up & she did, I don't know exactly how she managed to swing that but I'm glad she did.

All this to say, mental health care is a ginormous scam. This isn't the only story I have of how brutally it fails at helping people, I was admitted into a hospital again years later, possibly an even worse experience. But it's not trying to help people, it is actually very successful at what it's truly trying to do: profit. (At least this is the case in the US).

Yea the mental healthcare is shit: 2018 I took too much Prozac in an attempt to end my life along with dexamphetamine. Anyways I go to the hospital because of an OD right and they threw me in a psych ward because I'm "acting weird" or something... They didn't give me any of my medications (the prozac and the Dex) the following days so of course I'm gonna be in withdrawal.

Anyways they put me on antipsychotics and took away the Dex despite my ADD and it was agonising coming off it all. Worst time of my life and I tried to pull a runner once.

What actually happened was I had seretonin syndrome because of the seretonin levels in the Dex and the fluoxotine. Seretonin syndrome can kill people and makes them act up a bit psychotic. But it was only because of the seretonin excess that they confused it with actual psychosis asking me "do you hear voices?" ..f*CK no I don't I'm not psychotic.

I was only 18 at the time and their stupid judgement affected me for many years after. It's only 5 years later that I've been put back on prescription stimulants again (which I genuinely do need to function)

This is a fact. They deny fervently because obviously they wouldn't admit to the cold reality.

That sounds so horrific what you've had to endure, from what I heard psych wards really do sound like awful prisons, I hate how we exist in a world where suicidal people end up being punished and are treated like criminals simply for making a decision in which they have every right to make.
