I find particularly with chrome even though i've followed what advice i can find online to protect your privacy, chrome still offers suggestions of websites I've been to as i start typing. For example if I type san in the address bar, a "sanctioned suicide " address will come up. Not good as sometimes i use my computer with other people.

Gotta get rid of your cookies every time. And. I wouldn't look up this kinda stuff on a public computer ever.(Library, university, work etc) 'less you wanna set off alarms. Other than that. I am at the point of. I don't give a damn who knows. What? The thought police gonna stop me? Keep in mind. I don't think most authorities care just as long as they do not believe that you are a threat to any one else. Still. Even there you never know. Oh and. There is always your well meaning room mate or friend or whatever. Whoever has that shared access to the computer you are using. Best bet is secrecy but yeah. It is hard. I find it hard to keep bottled up but look at those who have been successful at CTB. They did not leave ANY room for ANY one to have an inkling of a clue as to the ticket and destination you were planning.

Good suggestions so far! Occasionally I will use incognito mode or a VPN or clear my browser history. But I really don't care who sees my internet search history in regard to suicide and other self-destructive measures because it's not going to create a blip on anyone's radar. And even if someone did notice, they would just turn to magical thinking. Obviously people can make all the bad things in their lives disappear if they only try hard enough, right? And if they can't do this, they obviously aren't giving their all (sarcasm). So nobody would really do anything, and so there would be no real consequences. And life goes on....

I am not sure what platform you are using but there are free VPN clients for Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, and iOS. Proton and Betternet are good ones.

For me, i'm not concerned with being trackable through the internet, just concerned with the person physically standing next to me seeing what search/website suggestions come up . Would a VPN help with that?

In Chrome you can press Ctrl+Shift+Delete, and when a new window comes up you can click on the "Advanced" tab, set the "Time range" drop-down menu to "All time", tick all the boxes below the drop-down menu, and click on the "Clear data" button.

If you start Chrome and press Ctrl+Shift+N then you go into incognito mode. While you're still in this mode, your browsing data automatically gets deleted when you exit it.

is this important for safe guarding the community? I don't care or have any reason anyone would care to look through my history when I'm gone

I use a VPN, especially when I log into the site. I delete my history every day, and especially right after using this site.

When I had more money to spend, I liked Express VPN. Now i use the free one from the Switzerland based Proton email. No ads or annoying stuff, except occasionally it asks if i want an upgrade, i just click no and it still is free thank goodness.

I'm not a tech genius and VPN may not protect 100%, but maybe it protects 85 or 90% possibly? Better than nothing.
