Thoughts on railway suicide? It seems like it would be rather painless method and easy to set up.

Pretty inconsiderate to the person driving the train.

The train driver could literally suffer PTSD from running you over.

Most suicides are inconsiderate by that same logic

Most? I don't know. I think all of us are capable of trying to minimize the horror or trauma of our passing for those who have to deal with what is left of us. I have ruled out full suspension hanging simply because it is more grisly for whoever comes along next than partial and because some poor cop or EMT will be tasked with cutting down the body. You can try to make sure you are behind a door with a note, or otherwise visually obscured. And so on. I have seen some people on here splitting hairs over very fine details to cause the least trauma or harm.

I don't see a huge moral issue with it. My concern is that a multitude of things could happen that don't lead to death. You could be deflected off and away from the train and end up badly injured, perhaps paralyzed, possibly brain damaged. I suppose you could lay your neck onto a track and let the train wheels decapitate you, or very nearly decapitate you. That stands a better chance at success imo.

I know someone who successfully died by jumping in front of a train. I doubt there are accurate statistics on the success rate, but I bet it's pretty high.

The train driver obviously bears no responsibility and would have no reason to feel guilty.

i've thought about it a lot. going over pros and cons. too many cons to bother with it in my case anyway. too many things can go wrong if it isn't pixel perfect.

Don't do it.
If one *must* CTB then find an alternative method.
Don't jump in front of a train.
Most suicides are inconsiderate by that same logic

Most suicides do not involve roping in an unconsenting person to "deliver" the means of death to you. It's similar to Suicide By (American) Cop.

Plus — from a pain perspective — there's all sorts of ways it can backfire and be horrendous for the CTB'er.

Must I link you the video from India of the dude literally ripped in half at the waist, still very conscious, "sat up" and looking at people as he's under the now-stationary train?

I've long been on the "just die in silence don't you dare disturb the innocent darlings" train of thought (bad pun).
But lately I have been thinking.
Maybe it is the MOST MORAL thing to do more public suicides. Suicide by train, cop, jumping, drowning in public swimming pools or amusement parks, saying someone's mom is ugly to get beaten to death in their hissy fit of rage, jumping into jet engines, etc.
WHY? Because it may lead to eventually stopping the "call this hotline" nonsense and the inane notion that suicidality as a mental illness rather than a grown-up rational decision. Maybe when people aren't just seeing the homeless people in a Schrödinger's opioid death state on the sidewalks where it's easy to ignore, they instead get a splatter on their car, a delayed train, have to behead them in an impromptu "can you do it in one swing?" contest, get brain rain from a shotgunned head on the floors above ("waiter, there's brain in my beer! eww, get me another!"), pull drowned bodies out of the water supply or big soup vat at the food plant, et cetera.

Then, they might see that suicide should not be so taboo. That it is better to allow people to go in peace. It make no sense, if suicidal people are mentally ill, why try to get them to continue to live? Suicidal people are possibly unstable. How many tragic events could have been prevented with simple truth+euthanize services? Truth: you're not hot shit and maybe in pain? well life sucks it will not get better. Euthanize: take this pill, get high and goodbye. People might vote or pressure their politicians to make it out of sight, out of mind. No more "call this hotline for help" -- there will finally be a "call this hotline for emergency euthanasia by van service." It's just purely economical. Probably most effective if you are able to die in front of people that matter like celebrities/politicians/richies.

Yeah it's sad you are like the fifth person a train conductor hit in 2024 so they are traumatized and all that. But maybe they'll get fed up and make their views heard. Who knows, if enough of us throw ourselves in front of trains, maybe there'll be a railroad workers strike that forces the hands of commerce and government to offer us a better way out. Not likely, I know.

The other justification is: life sucks, time to get out. No justification is needed, just like all the people that have bullied and shat on many of us and were rewarded for it needed no justification. These people do not care, look at how popular gore videos on the internet are, they might even get some tiktok fame for sharing a vid of your bloody bits smeared on the front of the train with a witty comment like "pink mist mode bruh lol" or whatever people write on those apps, that seems to be a common format. The vast majority of the claims about being psychologically distraught about your death by train are based on the inconvenience and the human desire for pity consolation compensation $$$ thrown their way if they can get it.

It's way worse than suicide by cop tho. Cops chose to work a job that potentially involves killing people, covering for your coworkers killing innocent people, locking people who need help up instead of getting them help, etc. That's not exactly consenting to killing you specifically, but it's as close as you could get.

People who work on trains are doing an import job for everyone that doesn't need to / shouldn't have anything to do with violence.

You totally captured me with this polemic and actually made me reconsider my position. However I still think that trains are bad target.
The other examples you've mentioned seem significantly more public to me. First of all there are more people who would actually see the act while it's going down, secondly just imagine the headlines if someone - as you said - drowned themselves in an amusement park.
How about self-immolation on times square or other cities' equivalent?
Why not bring some copies of a manifesto in which you advocate for freely available euthanasia services?
That way a death could actually have a purpose, even if the life of the person felt like it didn't.
