A slug would absolutely work. The hydrostatic shock caused by a slug from a 12 gauge is incredible. If you get the angle right - the shockwave should scramble the brain completely.

If you get a chance look up ballistic gel testing of shotgun slugs on YouTube.
imo the Medulla oblongata is the main target
@raghu1977 , @threesummers , @rationaldeath , @lifeisbutadream anyone :

Would the brain stem be destroyed in the area where this shockwave spreads below in the video ? this is much larger than the diameter of the slug

i guess with a 12 gauge magnum slugger or magnum 00 buckshot 15 pellets : if i would put the barrel in my mouth and hit anywhere on the pons to the medulla the shock wave would explode the whole brain and the medula too right? The ballistic gell tests seems to show this imo.

Would the brain be destroyed in the area where this shockwave spreads ? this is much larger than the diameter of the slug .

At least i would think that shockwave would open those arteries feeding the brain stem?

Handguns are perfectly functional, with the caveat that you need to use a large enough caliber. Technically speaking, any gun can work, but below a certain size threshold your chances of success drop significantly.

Modern handguns:

@Threads's preference for a .357 is well founded. A .357 is the benchmark against which all other calibers are measured for "stopping power."

Gun calibers can be extremely confusing --the more you look, the more confused you'll get-- but a good rule of thumb could be:

Revolver: anything .38 Special (marginal! --see note under ammunition) or larger --.357, .44, .45 Colt, .45ACP, etc.
Semiautomatic: anything 9mm or larger --.40, 10mm, .357Sig, .45

Avoid in either type of pistols: .22, .25, .32, .380, .38ACP. Will some of these smaller calibers work? Yes --technically. I have a .32 Auto that is likely to be my choice since it'll leave less mess than my .45ACP. The .380, aka 9mm Largo, is a good round, especially with modern ammo. BUT, you had better be very confident of your aim (I have shot competitively). If you are reading this thread with even a shadow of a doubt about where you need to aim, you should not look at these smaller calibers.

Revolver or semiautomatic?:

Revolvers are mechanically simpler and often attract less attention during purchase. You can also find them with a 2" "snub nose" barrel that makes them very easy to handle.

Semiautomatics have become far more common than revolvers, so might be easier to acquire, but they are more mechanically complex.

And once again, Hollywood is a shitty place to learn about how to use either.

Ammunition:

Always, always, always use hollowpoints, sometimes abbreviated in conversation and on the box itself "JHP" (Jacketted Hollow Point). JHPs deliver all the kinetic force of the bullet in as short a distance as possible. I.e., into your head, rather than into the wall on the other side of you. The brand doesn't matter; they all work.

If you are using a .38 Special revolver, which is marginal, look for ammunition labled "+P" or "+P+". These are designations meaning the ammunition has been loaded with more powder than the standard ammunition, and thus will deliver more power.
he thnaks for the help

22mm for the semiautomatic would not be enough?

It's not 22mm, it's 0.22in. That's one of the smallest, weakest rounds you can get.

In this pic, it's the bullet on the far left.

I'm totally new and unexperienced with firearms. So my questions are:

1) How can I spot scammers?
2) So if someone offered me a "clean" (=new/unused) pistol for 10.000€ (Europe) --> is this legit? I think 10000€ is pretty expensive. (it's the first time I have have contact with heavy drug addicts, because of rehab) The person "knows someone, who is selling firearms".
3) How much should an illegal and already used (not "clean") pistol cost?

Going forward, I'm only recommending the 50bmg for ctb, as there is pretty much 0 chance of failure :smiling:

For 10000€, you can come to the US. Spend a couple weeks living it up in Miami, and buy a gun to ctb in a tropical paradise. Or, you're already dealing with drug dealers, I'm sure they could sell you a couple grams of h...

What would a point blank head wound from a 5.56 AR-15 with a 16 inch barrel look like? I know it'd be fatal but im curious, can anyone link studies? Also would pointing it at my forehead be a good place? I know under the chin is a horrible idea. Would just 55 grain fmj work or should I get soft points?

In this very hypothetical situation a .38 snub nose with a less than 2 inch barrel could also be used. The gun is pretty old so not sure if +P rated. Is that enough velocity?

One shot of +P ammo in a non-+P-rated gun is not going to blow up the gun. It would take repeated use, which, in this scenario, would not be much of an issue. That said, a regular .38-calibre at point-blank, as long as it was placed correctly, would do you in. People have been killed by blanks from a .38. No guarantees in life, but with a hollowpoint round I would feel pretty confident.

If i were to choose this method it would be AR-15 with xm193 fMJ ammo . i would put it to my side of my head by ear pointing at brainstem eye level .also in the mouth. Green tips also good for ammo

i would use the 16" barrel . Notice the velocity he achieved 3200 fps.

Would it be worth it to use a 3d printed gun to ctb, say if you were living where guns are heavily restricted and would a require a huge amount of land to even ask to own?

I went shopping today. From reading this thread, my understanding is that a 22 gauge shotgun is the most statistically probable firearm. Second best is a high-caliber handgun with hollow point rounds.

Tried out some shotguns in stores. I'm small, female, and have arthritis. Even the shortest barrel and most "beginner-friendly" shotguns were impossible for me to work. Couldn't even work the safety on my preferred model (Mossberg Shockwave). So, revolver it is.

I found a revolver I really like that I think gives me my best chance of only needing one shot. Works well even with my weak hands. I plan to put it in my mouth, angled toward the brainstem.

Here is what I got:
  • Revolver: .357 Ruger GP100
  • Ammo: 38 Special +P ammunition (I can get different ammo, it's not very expensive)
What do you think?

imo if i were to do this method. I would use an AR-15 to the side of the head. It's only 16 inche barrel and so short and easy to handle. 3200 feet per second solid steel core bullets. This is an Ar-15 from some distance. Against the head there is even more power more devastation :

A contact shot even with a little baby handgun is devastating A lot of handuns have the speed of the bullet at 1000 feet per second to 1300 feet per second. compare to a rifle or Ar-15 at 3200 feet per second. The high velocity creates a pressure wave and a shock wave that imo would destroy a head ( Ronnie Mucnutt and Russian Gleb Korablev suicide)

also this would work for me , a 12 guage shotgun 2 inches in the mouth aimed at the brain stem

.357 magnum ammo would be much better in that gun.

I know that while I'm the author of this megathread (with permission from a user who has long been gone/inactive since 2018 or so), I do want to say with the way current events are going, this method may/not be feasible depending on where you live in the world or in certain states within the US.

Assuming you live in certain states that have lax gun laws, and you meet the criteria to legally own one, then yes I could see this still being viable (assuming your circumstances allow it). Other than that, I would still say this can still be a method but it certainly won't always be the case in the future, depending on how the current events play out. Certainly there are more stringent requirements and most likely getting tighter over time especially due to the increase of mass violence by certain individual(s) in society.

I left around/on January 20th, 2021, over a year ago and deactivated my account. I was thinking I'd die sometime sooner than later, but other events and circumstances in life kept me alive much longer than I wish to. If I had the things I had today, I'd CTB for sure on my own terms, but sadly that isn't the case in present day. :aw:

As for the other part, Deleted Member (in the past, at least with previous admins and owners before ownership changed) means that the account has been deactivated and the member is no longer active. I am simply waiting for RainAndSadness or other admin to deactivate my other account (@TAW122) so I can change my display name to 'TAW122'. This account @Deleted member 2141 is my original one and the one I primarily intend to use.

I hope this clears up some confusion and answers your question.

Look up Budd Dwyer. That's what he used.

There seems to be some debate over what ammo he used. In fact, reports of ammo in suicides is often maddeningly non-specific in terms of all the variants. I'm impressed with how calm and quick he carried it out and the pragmatism of his decision. The dude clearly didn't get bogged down in mechanics. Can't believe the guy from Traces of Death has become my hero.

One comment I'll make about gun choice based on my own experience...a full lug .357 is awkward for a mouth shot.

recently started looking into changing my method. discovered a model 60 .22 lr that wouldnt require much hassle to get my hands on. i understand its the worst choice of caliber, but what could i do to increase my chances of ctb with this method? 40" if that helps

Wow, gun ownership in the US really is trivial. Ordered a Winchester SXP Defender from Bass Pro online, walked into the store after it was delivered, and walked out with the thing less than an hour later. Very glad to have secured my "bus ticket", after watching some videos on YouTube there's no doubt in my mind my head'll be nothing but red mist when I load this fucker up with 00 buckshot.

Is anyone willing to let me PM them or PM me and spare some of their gun knowledge? I want to buy a black powder firearm but I am just overwhelmed
with all the stuff and want to make sure I am ordering the right things. Only thing I really know about guns is basic firearm safety "Don't put your finger on the trigger
unless you intend to fire", "Don't aim a gun in anyone's direction" and "Always treat a gun as loaded even if you think it's not" and so on but I don't know much else.
Could use any help.

In the US, black powder guns are very niche. I own a lot of firearms, and go shooting regularly, and have never once seen a person with a black powder gun.

Not sure about the situation in other countries, but this is probably going to be a time when Google is your best friend.

I live in the US, see I found one online that appears you can order online right to your doorstep, I thought that was illegal for firearms but maybe
it's different for black powder guns? So I wanted someone to verify if it was legit and what ammo I would need for it. (I probably should have mentioned that in my first post)
And I can't post that here.

I have googled some things but I get overwhelmed with the variants of guns, the law differences from place to place and all the slight variations with ammunition.

Just buy a real gun face to face. Armslist or local/regional gun forums. Also, depending on the state, black powder may still be considered a firearm.

Not an option for me, numerous mental problems make that hard for me to even leave the house and I don't think my medical history will allow me to pass
a background check. But I am not sure about black powder guns. I found one on a site that doesn't even sell guns as it's primary product. They mainly sell historical replica swords and stuff and a few fake prop replica guns but this black powder one is listed as functioning.

Regardless if the firearm is real or black powder it can be used to ctb easy.
