What gun would you prefer? I'm a small female and can't reach the trigger of my 10ga, 9mm is semiautomatic mag and won't fix in my mouth. I can buy whatever they happen to have at the store. Prefer it not to be a shotgun, to large to handle.
If you buy a pistol, aim for 0.4 or 0.45 caliber with hollow point bullets. I'm considering glock 27. It has bad reviews online but it is small. I suggest trying different guns before you purchase. I plan to start firearm training and range shooting before buying a gun

I would if I was planning on keeping it. I've shot the 9mm and shot gun in the woods at a target but that's about it and it's been awhile. Why would you use something small? Or just buying for the fun of it?

It may make me more comfortable when I shoot myself. I don't have much confidence and my self esteem is not high.

I might buy more than one (e.g. glock 27 and glock 22). honestly, it is a very complicated decision

Ofcourse it's complicated, it's the biggest decision of our life. I keep going back and forth with my method. Wish I could use the 9 at top or back of ear. It will probably work just fine but probably isn't 100% but nothing is. I have SN but for some reason I'm not into it as much now.
Do you think the 27/22 is large enough?
I'm horrible at making decisions…have to analyze everything. You should of seen what we went through to buy a TV and that's when I was normal before loss/trauma/grief…

my understanding is police uses glock 22 so it should be good! This is how I learned about glock and the entire brand. Members here recommend a shotgun but I don't have confidence in myself. It is better for me to improve my confidence and self esteem by being more educated about guns. If I have knowledge, I would hesitate less to shoot myself.

I'm also like you. I keep rotating between gun, SN, exit bag,...etc. It is sooooooo complicated. I honestly prefer a peaceful method but I cannot afford to fail. This is why I keep going back to the firearm method.

If you're buying a full size glock, stick to the 20 (10mm) or 21 (45acp). No sense in buying the 22 (40sw) when the others are the same size, but more lethal.

Same for the compact. May as well go for a glock 30 or 36 (45acp). Same size as the 27.

There is some information about caliber 45 acp being slower. Is that true? I read speed of the bullet is important for lethality.
Is 10mm more powerful than 40sw? I know 9 mm is not very powerful but I don't know about 10 mm.

Thanks!

10mm is the most powerful standard handgun round. It's also one of the fastest. Honestly, any pistol caliber 9mm or bigger is nearly 100% lethal in the head or heart.
While 45acp is one of the slowest rounds, it's also one of the largest and heaviest. It will cause catastrophic damage to any tissue in its path.

Here's a chart for some more info. There are many, many variables, so consider this a guide. http://waterguy.us/handgun.htm

Shows how much I know, I thought she was talking about .22 bullet lol I have no idea
I wonder how all these police in the states that commit suicide do it…what spot do they aim at, hand full of the police from the riots last year did but can't find reports on details, what gun or if it was mouth or ear area. All worked

I'm trying to narrow it down and make sure I'm clear on tit. BUT, it's all numbers, which float around in bounce in my head. The more I read them, the worse it gets. I've read all the pages here and tons elsewhere. It's like I'm reading an alien language at this point.
Its been that why my whole life. I've been able to work around it as an adult, but low and behold here it is again. Jokes on me.

I'll probably just end up having to buy off the sales person recs, I don't know. I have an arrangement to go in on Tuesday. Wish me luck.

My dad is a police commissioner and I have been to the gun range couple of times. It is quite difficult to get a gun in where I am in Europe. But from my experience in the gun range they take personal safety of the users as well as their surroundings pretty seriously. I have never ever heard of an attempt at a gun range but there is a high possibility of injuring yourself and/or some bystander by mistake. Plus, I'd guess if you attempt and fail, you would probably be facing some serious criminal charges. Even if you succeed (I am just assuming you don't mind exposing the bystanders to some gruesome imagery), I am pretty confident the responsible people in the gun range will be facing criminal charges and they may lose their business.

I would recommend getting a hunting license if you really think this should be your method.
It does happen in shooting ranges. Just happened couple months ago at a range near me. Big trouble if you put the gun to your head and someone grabs it from you.

Imagine the loudest concert you've gone to. You would clearly hear most gunshots over the music.

  • Difficulty with locating objects in environment
  • Difficulty with identifying colours (Colour Agnosia)
  • Production of hallucinations
  • Visual illusions - inaccurately seeing objects
  • Word blindness - inability to recognise words
  • Difficulty in recognizing drawn objects
  • Inability to recognize the movement of an object (Movement Agnosia)
  • Difficulties with reading and writing

Damage to the brain stem can result in:
  • Decreased vital capacity in breathing, important for speech
  • Swallowing food and water (Dysphagia)
  • Difficulty with organisation/perception of the environment
  • Problems with balance and movement
  • Dizziness and nausea (Vertigo)
  • Sleeping difficulties (Insomnia, Sleep apnoea)

How was the class?
the class is ok as a start. I found the training inside the range to be intimidating! I was startled by the loud noise multiple times. I also didn't like the gun - glock 19. It was too heavy I got tired after a few rounds. It is not user friendly I couldn't easily push the slide backwards or release the magazine. I also couldn't shoot nonstop like others. I don't know how they do it! I needed to wait at least 30 seconds between the rounds. It was not easy to control the gun after shooting each round due to the power of the shot.

The trainer told me I did good because I was able to shoot the center multiple times. He thought I'm intimidated because it is my first time around guns and loud noise. He recommended buying smaller 9mm handguns and spending more time in the range.

Long story short: I'm not ready to buy 10mm or 45acp :( I need to spend more time in the range and practice different guns first.

I know that a hollow point round is preferred. But i was wondering if a 9mm FMJ would still work if shot aimed either behind or above the ear? I have a 9mm M&P shield but only have FMJ ammunition.

9mm is risky unless you are an excellent experienced shooter. I would highly suggest you buy hollow point if you are using 9mm handgun. It should be less than $30

Definitely good advice.

@nowayout* additionally, behind the ear is risky because you could easily be way off on the angle.

So what would be the best placement. Mouth or above the ear? I have access to other guns but I'm not comfortable with them.

Yeah that's exactly what I'm scared of. But as of right now it is my only option on hand should everything go to crap soon.

Does someone have information about gunshot to the heart instead of head? I couldn't find enough information. I want to know:

- what happens to the person if they survive?
- does the person become vegetable or paralyzed?
- how to target the heart?
- how long does it take to die?

Thanks
