Help gun purchase to ctb

For someone making a first time gun purchase with the intent of ctb, what is the best way to purchase without giving that away? I have never owned a gun before and want to sound somewhat knowledgeable about what I'm asking and try and play it cool enough to not raise suspicians. I was planning on going to a local sporting goods store to purchase it and also take a class on handling it since I never have even handled a gun before. II just don't want to do or say anything to fuck this up! Any advice would be helpful.

I am going to do my best to do that. It's so different for me because in my mind, they know why I'm there even if they don't. It's so different than a regular person just interested in starting a hobby vs me knowing i am going to ctb and end my pain. I'm worried my thoughts could be jumbled with so much on the line.

Thanks, I'll definitely try. I have to find out exactly what gun will do the job best as well and become educated on that. It makes sense, my mind makes it a way bigger deal than it probably is because i have so much riding on this.

You haven't mentioned what type of gun you are going to buy. Shotgun? Rifle? Handgun? Whatever chit-chat story you can prepare in advance obviously depends on what type of gun you are going to buy.

Makes perfect sense. Looking into either a shotgun or a 45 perhaps, still doing research on what type for sure would be better for me since I will be doing it outside in a large park setting

Don't send any cash through Paypal, Venmo, etc. Same as anything else, if the price looks too good to be true, it's probably a scam. Or it could be someone is selling a stolen gun, or one used in a crime. Don't ask questions, just meet, buy the gun, and leave. Also would be a very good idea to have a friend come along, or at least borrow a gun from someone else. I've never went to an Armslist exchange unarmed myself.

I do not know for with buying guns how if guns would change things about where it is okay to simply be able to have the gun out in the open while in public, but when I have bought other stuff from people online previously, both parties we agreed to meet at the far end of an open busy large business parking lot for our safety.

One trick I used when buying climbing rope was to seem worried about buying the wrong one and asking for return policies. In combination with making it seem like I had some friends that were expert climbers and that I was getting "roped into it".

For example don't handle the gun with the finger on the trigger, always point the gun on the ground, remove the magazine and reload the gun (just to make sure there is no bullet inside), don't immediately ask for the biggest caliber (9mm cal. will do the job), if they asking for the intentions behind the purchase -> just say Home Defense, if they ask you where you want to store the gun, say that you'll be getting an American Security (AMSEC) gun container from a friend of yours since he's switching to larger container..

I don't know how helpful those informations are since I only have a license in Czech republic and the laws there are diffrent from those in other countries

We (Americans) had a whole summer of nonstop looting by radical left-wing nutjobs. Use that in your favor! Tell the salesman that you're now scared for your safety, and want to a reliable way to protect your home. Because "they loot, we shoot". Most gun store workers, let alone owners, are politically right-wing, and are in support of gun ownership. They will gladly sell you one, and teach you how to properly handle it.

"The bus" doesn't even need to be in the equation.

Definitely makes sense. Appreciate the tips. I am leaning towards a 45 to do it, but not set on it yet. I appreciate the caliber too, 9mm would def do the job? I am also researching whether in the mouth or above the right ear would be best too. From what I've read, in the mouth may be the way to go aimed up of course.

I have conducted some Armslist transactions in some very sketchy places. One was a large apartment complex parking lot around 2 am. It was a great deal, but could have wound up costing me a lot if I got robbed of my wallet or car. I was definitely packing for that one.

That is definitely possible. The only thing is I do have a partner that I have to not only hide the gun from, but also that I'm going to ctb so that is a challenge. I don't want them to know I have a gun at all, so the purchase and any subsequant classes/shooting would have to be secret. They don't know how bad I want to ctb and if I told them "I wanted to check out shooting as a hobby" I think they'd see thru that and know that I might off myself with it.

And it probably won't come with a handbook, which tells you everything you need to know. Also, the legal ramifications, if caught, would prevent any future legal purchases.

The difficulty now is to find ammunition. You can get it online if you look hard and act quickly.

I am in the US and I know there is a lot of red tape. But I can pass the background check which I assume they will run. I'm not sure on individual state laws either as I have looked at them, but it's really hard to decipher as there is so much information. Ammunition is a concern of mine and quite honestly having no idea what ammunition is compatible and the right ammo to do the job. I am hoping to get a 45, I have read about many successful suicides with them, just not sure if there's a specific one or what ammo to look into getting for it when I get it. Still in the research stage I guess, but a background shouldn't be an issue

@iwanttodie000 If it's your first gun, look for a highpoint 45. They are trash, but dirt cheap, like $100-$150 used. Ammo-wise, any good quality hollow point will be fine. I personally like Sig V Crown. It's about $1-$1.50 per round. Never once had a feed issue. This is what you would need:

Do they not care because there's no enforcement, or because they only deal in untraceable guns anyway? Presumably, the very existence of something like Armslist is a strong indication that little or no enforcement is done, since it must be easy for an enforcement agency to round up a bunch of gunrunners just by replying to ads.

That certainly does complicate things. Do children or teens ever come in the house? If so, that means securing it under lock, not just hiding it.

I have posted on here before that buying that first gun saved my life! It has become a fun hobby. So what Spitfire says. Also, owning a gun instills me with a sense of responsibility. Now, when the impulsive urge to CTB comes upon me, I know that using that gun is a "no going back" decision. There will be no changing my mind and calling 911 for help once I pull that trigger. Count on an investigation with yellow do not cross police line tape around my house and the cops will confiscate all my guns and stuff and who knows what else. My heir will probably never get them! They are my most prized possessions now.

I don't know what to say about keeping this secret.

Edit to add: As for what gun to get, that is a personal choice for everybody. It needs to fit your hand. A revolver is the choice for people who have trouble pulling back the slide on a semi automatic. Also, your choices will be very limited to what a dealer has in stock, which now isn't much.

Looks relatively easy to handle, the more I look into it, the more I think I would probably eat it instead of the side of the head, but still researching that. @iwanttodie000 I do hope you reconsider your decision to ctb. I'm not advocating that. But if that's your choice, at least the 45 is about the best handgun you can get to kill and not maim. Least chance of winding up a vegetable or severely fucked up. And yes, all research shows that in the mouth, slightly upward angle is the most successful.

After you purchase the gun, make sure to take a few trips to the range, get a feel for the trigger, get used to the violence of shooting a gun, especially a 45. It's loud, it will make you jump at first. Eventually, you will be comfortable enough to stand right next to someone who is shooting and have a conversation. Also, you will be able to concentrate and shoot with people shooting their guns to the left and right of you.

Like others have said, if you postpone your trip, you may find shooting an enjoyable hobby. You will make great progress at first. There's nothing like hitting a headshot with a handgun at 20+ yards!

I have a Sig Sauer .45, a police type pistol. Love it!! Ammo for the semi auto .45's is labeled ACP (Auto Colt Pistol) or "Auto". Avoid Taurus. They are trash. The last thing you need is a cheap POS that may jam or misfire.
