I actually joked about this since it seems like such a bad method, but hear me out.

I remember looking this up a while back and it doesn't seem to be that horrible of a death, if you were to just walk into the woods (hard mode: do it at home) and not drink for some days (anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks depending on obvious and less obvious factors) it would technically get the job done. I am sure that a Buddhist monk could pull this off without it even being a negative experience for him. The actual pain might not be that bad if you can detach from the psychological suffering by simple mindfulness.

Pros

1. Free or at least relatively inexpensive.
2. Epic and badass.
3. Depending on circumstance, completely reversible without sustaining any damage (doctors on the forum please respond).
4. Not that bad if you can distract yourself/meditate after you get over the initial thirst, according to randos online.

Cons

1. Determination required for the duration of around ten days (for most ppl).
2. If you go back you may have lost your job or failed to do some other things that you would've wanted to do if you knew you were going to live. However if these things cause too much of a grievance you can always go out into the forest again :pfff: :pfff: :pfff:
3. Too much meditation may lead you to start enjoying "just being alive" which will turn you away from suicide, smacking you back into the cycle of suffering until you're ready to try again.
4. Finding a way to be relatively comfy in the woods/fields/mountains/etc. Shelter? Heating? Something to do?

Whatchall think? Another one is dying of hypothermia whilst perhaps still covering genitals and maybe head to reduce suffering (combination with sleeping pills and/or alcohol?). Add your own less-discussed method and/or discuss dehydration/hypothermia as methods. :sunglasses::sunglasses::sunglasses:

If longevity is the course for you, might as well drink antifreeze, and wait 3 weeks to die and hope the nurses are nice enough to give you morphine.

I've had severe dehydration. It was to the point I would vomit water after drinking it. Trip to the Er and a couple iv drips I was sent home with a huge bill. I didn't do this on purpose either. Just got sick for weeks. It took months to really recovery and I had dropped a lot of weight from it.

I tried this before and I gave up after a day. I have very low tolerance for pain and just being generally uncomfortable yet I want to die a lot. If I could handle being uncomfortable and pain better I'd probably be somewhere better.

Darnit, guess I'm wrong about it not coming with risk of long-term damage.

The unquenchable (pun intended) drive to drink water when extremely dehydrated is the most potent example of a survival instinct. Dehydration and hunger decrease fear, but only the fear that involves doing whatever it takes to get more food and water. If you are young and healthy, this would probably be an unfeasible method.

You have to have an unbreakable diamond resolve to see such a method all the way through.

Alcohol dehydrates you right? Use beer to fake the feeling of hydration and die faster. Simple suicide method hack.

This is stupid. If you locked yourself in a room with no water you would be drinking your urine in less than 72 hours. This is in no way peaceful or easy to do with willpower.

This seems convoluted and painful. All the methods I've looked into have been relatively painless ones because my life has been really painful mentally and physically. I can't fathom an exit that's overtly uncomfortable or painful.

I know people who do dry fasting for 12 days without food and water. It is dangerous to health, but not fatal.but if you have a weak heart and physical exhaustion you can die.

I use intermittent fasting and it gets rid of toxins helps your mood helps you find bliss and can be a spiritual experience that brings peace. The first way is to fast for 8 hrs then 10 then 12 and up to however long you feel comfortable. When you get used to it you can go wet (drinling only water) OR dry (drinking zero water except for bathing and brush in your teeth). Dry fasting has been used to cure cancer and diabetes and things like this. Your body eats the cancer (cancer is a fungal growth caused my too much acid in the body/organs) cleans the blood (plaque and cardio problems can be greatly healed this way) and so on. This process is called atophagy/autophogy. The snake eating itself is the symbol or a symbol used to describe this. My point is that fasting/dehydration cures the body and could most definitely stop someone from catching the bus. LOL. You think that would be good until you see a post about it here. Also through these methods you can have a spiritual experience that can peace you appreciating living life. Again I'm only stating to back up what you wrote here in the "CONS". LOL. It's an interesting idea. Dying like a champion with your "maker" right at your side. LOL.

Dehydration sucks. Your inside lips and cheeks stick tight to your teeth. Your throat gets so dry, you can't swallow. Not fun.

@Luz if by dry fast you mean a complete fast of all food and liquid for 12 days, I suspect the people you know are not completely honest about their water consumption. Most humans would be near death or beyond at the 5 day mark.

It would cause kidney damage. I've been hospitalized 3 times for electrolytes imbalances and was admitted once my sodium was low. I think we should talk about CTb via overhydration if you want to start a new thread. That risks stroke though...

I once accidentally got myself so dehydrated my kidneys started to shut down. It took a while, but it was painless. I just went to bed and slept for 2 months. Dehydration can make you very tired and groggy. The more dehydrated you get, the more you sleep. Presumably, you'd eventually get to a point where you just wouldn't wake up.

Also, if dehydration is more of a chronic state than something that's an abrupt change for you, you don't get the severe dry mouth. Your body just decides that you must be living through a severe drought, and it shuts down your awareness of thirst. Quite a lot of people are chronically dehydrated and don't know it because of this reason. If you don't drink much but never feel thirsty, you may already be in the zone.

It'll speed things along if you quit eating as well, since you can actually get quite a lot of moisture through food. I never quit eating entirely, which is probably why it took me two months to get to the point where my pee turned black. I remember feeling faint and sweaty during the rare times I crawled out of bed, but for the most part there was very little discomfort. I wasn't even awake for most of it.

For most people this isn't a very practical method, since someone is likely to call an ambulance on you unless you live alone, have the means not to get evicted if you don't work for a couple of months, and absolutely no one will check in on you if you disappear. I had relatives banging on my door all the damn time, and it's actually pretty surprising I got as far as I did. I'm sure they'd have called 911 on me if I'd ever become totally unresponsive.

As attempts to ctb go, dehydration isn't without its risks. Somebody already mentioned the risk of crystals in your urinary tract that cause you horrible pain. There's also the risk of a heart attack or stroke that doesn't quite kill you, and instead leaves you shambling around some nursing home for the next 40 years, wondering what your name is and whether anyone's coming to change your pants.

Still, those are similar to the effects of many other methods when something goes wrong, and it's always possible something will go wrong. The pros of dehydration are not insignificant: it requires no "kit" or special preparations, can be almost painless, legal in every country on earth, death may put down to "natural causes" rather than suicide because there are lots of conditions that can result in dehydration and death. Maybe you had heat stroke or
cholera or something. (Okay, cholera's not common in the developed world, but it's what I could think of, and I don't care enough to Google it.)

My first choice method would be a shotgun blast to the head, but getting hold of a gun would require a crumb of effort (not much: USA, Midwest), and a crumb is more than I'm capable of at the moment. Crawling into bed for a few months and never getting up except to use the toilet sounds about my speed. If only I could keep my family away for as long it took for the bus to arrive!
