That's going to be very painful and scary, I don't think that's a good idea at all

Why? After drowning the game is over
Because you very likely won't black out before you run out of oxygen, so your survival instinct will kick in, give you a panic attack and you'll shake violently in pain as your body tries to gasp for air

Well, I don't think that will last long. It's a pain that will end. I see it as a safe method if done well.
