There is no inherent meaning to life. Some find purpose in family, career and whatever other bullshit there is. People say that you have to make meaning yourself, but what is left for those who can't find it, for those who are mentally ill? Are we doomed to suffer here until we either latch onto some pointless thing or just die? I don't see the appeal of life at all.

There is no purpose in life. We live solely to enjoy the moments of "feel good" hormones being released by our brains. Somehow, all the sadness, trauma and misery in our lives up until that moment is suddenly negated by the release of these chemicals. In this way, happiness becomes our sweet little lie, covering up the fucked up shithole that life really is. People will often tell you that things get better, and to stay strong, but at the end of the day, we are all just lying to ourselves.

Life does not appear to me to contain any intrinsic meaning or purpose. It's just incoming sense data - touch, sight, hearing, etc. - organized around a sense of "myself".

It is we who create our subjective meaning from this incoming data, and then, usually with some goal in mind, create a purpose based on reaching that goal, and then act on that purpose.

So the bad news is life is completely meaningless on its own. That is why if we are left alone at birth, we die, because we are born completely unable to make sense of, or act on, the world.

The good news is this means we have the freedom to create any meaning or purpose we want around life.

However, when we are inhibited in some way from doing that efficiently and constructively, we suffer, sometimes deeply existentially, and that can be a horrible thing.

So I feel the purpose of life, the point of life, is to create an accurate and constructive interpretation of incoming sense data, and with that, obtain fulfillment through experiencing meaning created from that sense data organized around our unique version of "myself".

many people's live have purpose. We are just the unlucky bunch who have been struck down by physical and !ental illnesses so to us life has no purpose. But at one time in my life I was happy, before I got sick at 20 years old and everything ended. Life can be beautiful and exciting and passionate.

I believe purpose is subjective. It's something you find internally to make sense of all the pain and senselessness of life and keep going anyway. It's essentially a coping mechanism, one I wish I honestly wish I had.

No, life has no purpose. We're just smarter than averape apes who were cursed with conscience, so instead of just following any instinctive need we need to distract with any petty stuff we can find in order to fill that void inside us.

I think this is a question many people think if but the majority of people who think about this are those that are severely depressed I've been thinking about it for quite some time now. I think the reason for that is because I'm physically sick and I'm not able to actually get out in the world and live. The people that have full lives, that truly have a list for life and enjoy their time here don't really think about it. I know I didn't when I was well. But when I turned 20 everything changed. And even though I'm 34 now I've suffered for too long. Is that what I was put on this Earth for? To suffer with the highest ranking pain condition in medical history for over half my life? And if there is no afterlife, what was the point of living if we aren't going to remember it?
