Nearly died of medical negligence, got dropped from all treatment once I was just about able to walk (aided) and received no help since. Apparently they knew that I had serious brain damage from the beginning, but I never received any help for it, nor was I even properly told about it until 10 years later. Any attempt to bring up chronic pain or symptoms was met with being treated like I was faking, or having random painkillers thrown at me. Eventually they stopped even prescribing me painkillers. It took about 8 years for them to realise that the antiepileptic meds they gave me were causing me harm and switched me to new ones. I'm currently having horrible side effects from one of them, and their advice is to "just put up with it and see if it goes away." I'm not even on my full dose yet. During my stays in hospital, nearly all of the doctors and nurses have been totally unempathetic and some even spoke to me in a way that you wouldn't even talk to a child, or any human being.
As for mental health, almost all attempts to seek help have either been brushed off or treated with more meds. When I'd tried 3 different antidepressants and none of them worked, they told me "medication just isn't right for you." I've received a total of 8 counselling sessions throughout my life (2 sets of 4) which didn't work because I wasn't even given enough time to trust the therapist. I've also had 2 sessions of CBT, which was cancelled because I refused to be spoken down to by the narccistic "therapist", who was clearly only in the job to stroke her own ego, and ignored or brushed off everything I had to say. I've been in hospital for suicide attempts 3 times, 2 of which resulted in no help and just being given a couple of phone numbers I could call (the other got me given some more meds and getting a few phone calls from the crisis team) and one of those times, I told the mental health "professional" that I fully intended to try again once I left, and she sent me home with a leaflet.
So yeah, the level of help available is honestly disgusting. People with mental health issues or chronic illnesses are completely brushed under the rug and ignored. I don't think I'll ever trust another health "professional" of any kind again.
