  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

This thread is for discussion, sharing your opinion or venting out.

In my opinion, if you are really observant of someone, you can notice the faint/drastic changes in their person. From small jokes wishing death to isolation. Also learning about someone's diagnosis can be a great way to notice -- The thing is, if suicide is mostly impulsive, how can you really prevent it?

I believe the signs are noticeable but most people don't know how to deal with them so they slowly either let the person... die of they get them help.
Sometimes the signs never stop ... until they're dead.

The signs are only noticeable if you look for them and prod for information imo. Much like people will assume you mean well or are telling the truth etc, people will assume you are not suicidal as that isn't very common. Plus they think of themselves more than others usually.

Not everyone knows what to look for. I think for the most part there are always signs. Some are better at hiding them than others. But when you look back, you'll always notice something you didn't at the time.

I think often there are noticeable signs. Especially to people who suffer also. Sometimes, I wonder if people are just too afraid to pick up on them or, to ask outright. Sometimes I think maybe they just don't want to actually know. Or, they find it too intrusive to ask maybe.

Maybe our colleagues or more distant aquantancies may not notice, if we're good at putting on a facade. But, closer family and friends? Not sure. I would have thought it obvious with me- which is partly why I try to avoid them now.

I always find it weird though, when you read in news reports- families and friends saying they had 'no idea'. I mean- they had been receiving treatment for depression and ideation for years but still- there were 'no signs'.

I also wonder just how many suicides are impulsive. I'm inclined to think- not all that many. I don't believe people kill themselves the first day they felt something was wrong in their lives! I imagine for most people, shit was building up for a long time.

I suppose the bigger thing is- were that person to get genuine care and support at the very start of things going wrong- would they still end up CTB? Maybe. Some people here seem to have a very supportive network but, still feel the way they do. Others though- sadly, I think they maybe could have done better if they'd been helped earlier on.
