How did death occur with barbiturates available in pharmacies until a few decades ago?

I talked about it with the pharmacist and he told me it was painful. He suffered because he continually woke up and lost consciousness. Your breathing stopped and you felt like you were suffocating and then fell asleep and woke up several times before dying. And we didn't always die. What do the experts say?

Dozens of eye witness accounts state otherwise. Your pharmacist is just fear mongering. With the right dose you shouldn't even wake up. Barbiturates are literally the holy grail of peaceful ctb. That is literally what is used in the countries where euthanasia is legal.

Not 100% true.
You fall asleep & stop breathing.
That's it!
It overrides the autonomic nervous system which keeps you breathing, so you drift off peacefully.
That's one of the reasons barbiturates aren't that widely used anymore in medicine. They are effective! 🌹💔

Barbiturates are a luxury. Dying while falling asleep seems the best.

If I had N, it would be over. The one in a million chance of another reliable seller appearing is probably extending my life lol.

Maybe it's true for people who did it accidentally and just took more than needed as a sleep aid? I have no clue but when taking the euthanasia dose that's not true at all.

All the things about N I have read say otherwise. And from my testings with small dosages, I can say you will be sleeping deeply before anything else happens. The only thing you experience before sleeping is extremely better taste. Maybe you vomit with a large dosage so you have to take AE.
I don't know where the pharmacist got the info., but though each individual case is unique, probably it is extremely uncommon even if that ever happened.
