I'm planning on telling my mom that I'm staying at a friend's house for the night and then check into a hotel

How long should I check in for? Would the hotel consider it suspicious that a fairly young person who lives in the same city is checking into a hotel for one night? What reason would I give if they asked why? Should I book it for a longer period of time ... I mean wasting money is not really a concern of mine at this point

I hate to be doing this in a hotel because I don't want to cause trouble for the staff but I don't know what alternative there is. I'm guessing that once I don't come home the next day as planned my parents will call the police .. how would they end up finding me? somehow access my credit card history and see that i checked into a hotel?

I'm so overwhelmed by how many problems I'm gonna have to make sure I've dealt with ...

How old are you? As long as you're not underage I don't see a problem here. If they ask, tell them you had an argument with your family/partner and that's why you want to stay in the hotel. You can stay for as long as you want. You can also tell them you don't really know, maybe several nights. Noone will find this suspicious.

Again, depends on your age. If you're underage the police will start the search very quickly. As an adult, it's a different story. In my country at least 48 hours must have been passed before an adult can be reported missing unless there are clear indications of an underlying crime or a suicide.
In their search, police will likely check your cc/bank account history, yes.

I am not underage, I just look fairly young. Ok, I'll probably just say that I had a disagreement with my roommate or something.
I have been struggling with mental health issues for a long time so I am fairly certain that as soon as I do not come home they will think I'm dead. That's why I plan on checking in in the afternoon, taking the N then, and then a whole night will have passed before anyone should become concerned. Does that seems like a wide enough margin to make sure that I'm not found? Again, I'll just say that I'm staying at a friends house overnight.

I still live with my parents - that's why I know that the search will be started fairly quickly.

Not to downplay your stress, but as others have said above, you may be overthinking the hotel part of the process. If anyone at the front desk asks you why you're checking in, they're just making small talk. Just say "business" or "visiting friends" and get your cash/credit card out. No worries.

its a very small amount of money, why make my mother go through the hassle of providing a death certificate to the bank, when I could make a simple transfer

It might be best to pay for the hotel via cash to increase the time it takes to trace you. Maybe use a pseudonym while filling in the hotel forms

I don't think I want to die in a forest because I don't want my body to rot. I want to be found within a day or so. I plan on taking the N virtually as soon as I get to the hotel ... so that should be mid-afternoon .. I don't think people will start to worry until the next day.

Knowing the hotel line - honestly they don't care unless you are underage or acting suspiciously during check-in/ your stay. Might be different for smaller hotels/motels that get few guests a day. Maybe they will probe a bit more since they have the time to analyse their guests.

Just don't do anything or look suspicious during your checkin and you should be fine. Rarely they will ask- most probably in a friendly way they might ask to strike up conservation. Never reply anything negative like 'staying here because I had a fight with my family'. It will only give them more reasons to monitor you more closely. Just say you're doing a staycation. Something positive. So it will just brush off their minds.

You're young. Realize that there is no u-turn from suicide. Hope you have tried all avenues before taking this decision. I'm not trying to influence you, just trying to make you realize that some problems are temporary and some are permanent. Make sure that you are very sure about your decision because there is no turning back from this one.

Best of luck :)

So saying you are going on a staycation isn't sketchy? Do people do that?
Yes, I know there is no turning back. I was in an accident a couple of years ago that affected me physically. I have 24/7 pain.

I definitely think we are all over thinking it and even if they ask, it's purely for friendly small talk anyway.

I wouldn't OFFER a reason, but if asked just say your house is getting painted / renovated. It's a legitimate reason and people do this ALL the time when their house is temporarily unavailable. I've done it a few times when my houses were painted or renovated, they do it on all those tv shows too, so it's a totally normal non-suspicious reason.

As long as you are of age and have a method of payment they really won't bat an eyelash.

My plan is to stay in the hotel for just a day soon before the CTB and familiarise myself with the staff etc so upon my return later my presence doesn't arouse suspicion and I'll be seen as somewhat of a "regular"

I think they are unlikely to find you provided there is no reason for people to be looking for you as soon as you go "missing".
Another question guys - should I prepare a delayed message for the police or not?
If I do one for the police, I will probably send it for 3 AM or so the next day. If I check in in the afternoon and take the N fairly soon after then that leaves me with about 12 hours or so. Does that seem like enough?
Alternatively, I do not send an email and then my mom will realize I am missing the next day and they will trace the hotel from the credit card. I feel like this experience might be more traumatic. I'd rather have the police going to my mom rather than my mom going to the police. Whatever simplifies things is best. What do you guys think?

I have the same plan and I can tell you how things will go down in my case.

Method: Nembutal.

I'll book a hotel for 2 nights. I'll check in on Saturday morning and I would check out on Monday morning - which isn't gonna happen of course. I should be already dead at that point. So I have 2 nights for myself. The first day, Saturday, is only there to check into the hotel, get comfy in my room, have a good time. I'll eat dinner in a restaurant which I've already picked. It's gonna be hamburgers, american style, with a milkshake. Sunday is preparation day. I'll get my N ready and I'll drink it in the night of Sunday. That gives me several hours to die until I would have to check out again the next morning, on Monday. That's how I planned to do it.
I'll use an email-service to send an automatically scheduled email to the police and to the hotel and another local organisation, informing them about my death. There will be goodbye notes in the room and information about my doctors, so they know who to contact.

There isn't much magic to the whole thing. I doubt anyone would find me in time, well, unless the email service fucks me up somwhow. But I've already tested this, the emails leave exactly in time. I'll inform them around 4am in the morning.

My plan is essentially the same but I am going to take the N pretty much as soon as I check in. Won't have much to do at that point. What email service are you using? I know that some people have mentioned getting caught because of the contents of their emails.

You don't need to write an email in the hotel they will look after you when you didn't check out. It only puts the risk higher to be catched
