I think if you can find some purpose in life, that could keep you going even if you have a tendency to be depressed. There would need to be some strong motivation for you to want to stick around
Maybe you should post this in the recovery section. It sounds like a recovery question. To me feeling depressed can be a rational response to life circumstances rather than a 'mental illness'. The existence of life in itself is depressing.
