You can realize this easily by just being the witness of your emotions/thoughts, anything of the 5 senses and then not identifying with anything the brain or body throws at you. Not even memories. You are the witness/consciousness of all this; ultimately not even the witness, you are beyond everything so don't identify with worldly concepts.

Once you start seeing and knowing this first hand you reality begins to shift. Focus and be aware of being aware.
