I think unless he was saved, he won't be with us. I hope he is at peace now.

He had vomiting, a high heart rate and said it tasted bad but otherwise didn't say any other symptoms.

There is - N.

Apart from increased heart rate, being sick and a very salty liquid (N tastes worse apparently), there wasn't a mention of other symptoms. I'm sure if it was painful, he would have said.

The problem is than N still requires preparatory procedures, and I'd only ctb via N if I was lucky enough to do so via a service like Dignitas, who have doctors who know what they are doing.

There have been to many failed ctb attempts with both SN and N for me to feel confident enough to use without a doctor to oversee everything.

Many people ctb successfully on SS without needing doctors help. KCN sounds painful. It is up to you though.

I'm very inclined to agree that it is painful, this is why drinking KCN with a gun shot to the head with a pistol is probably the best combination.

Technically you can do that. Also from this Reddit post someone suggests you can also produce HCN by burning dump of figure toys.
