Hi,

I already have two people's opinion on this matter (thank you for that - you know who you are). Just needed other people's opinion too.

I have a holiday apartment booked for three nights to ctb in the next few weeks. My method for this is N. But the UK government are now advising against all non essential travel, which totally destroys my plans. As do believe we are a few steps away from a lockdown. When a lockdown does occur I'm scared my parents will be suspicious about where I am going when not meant to. Just sounds like a extra risk in being found that is not worth it.

And as I can't afford to lose my money. I need to stay one step ahead of the government etc. So I have made the decision to either cancel and get refund or postpone till later in the year. Can you give me your opinion on which option is best?

PS. I do have travel insurance.

Cancel and get a refund. Maybe it's fate. You might, after lockdown, have a different perspective.

Is the holiday apartment abroad? If so, depending on where you are going you might be quarantined and could run the risk of the local police doing a spot check to ensure you are there Obviously if you've already gone through with it that wont matter. Also, if abroad, does your insurance repatriate your body? Again, you''ll be dead but a loved one in the UK can have a major headache trying to get you back to the UK.

Rather get a refund. This whole situation also messed up some of my plans.

Thank you for replying. The apartment is in England. Feel so unsure as to what to do.

China was the first place the virus started, so it's tempting to watch their bell curve to predict how long the virus will surge before it declines. The good news is, China is already in a decline after a Jan-Feb surge, giving the notion that this will be two months of hell and lockdown, as the increases are just taking hold in Europe, just a few weeks ahead of the US. However, no other country (especially the way U.K. is handling it) will be able to contain the virus like China did with their immediate and complete lockdown. So, we can't forecast to be on the same timeline as China. I am totally guessing here but it could take 2 months, as many as 4 and less likely more to get through the worst of it and life restrictions going back to normal. I think July is probably safe planning, as much as I'm hopeful for May.

EDIT: I'm personally in favor of the way the UK is handling the situation, with less restrictions to lessen the blow to their economy and "infecting the herd" to soften next year's infections, assuming this virus comes around in winter like the flu.

This has completely ruined my plans, too. I was traveling from US to Europe in April to CTB. Being it would be a one way trip, I'm still going to try!

What potential DIS-advantage is there to canceling and getting a refund? This virus situation is pretty unpredictable right now, so how would you even know how long to postpone for? Cancellation policies are fairly liberal at the moment, so I'd say just get a refund and go from there.

At this point, nearly everything is uncertain. If I were you, I would cancel the trip.

You have N... how lucky you. Congratulations for that.

I mean, if you have it... then there isn't much else to say about it. You can take it by night while she is sleeping. I have heard that once it hits you, it's over, there is no cure, so no need to worry about failing.

Best of luck my friend.

Firstly, Sorry........I did not read your post, I though wrongly that it would be another rambling post and it is not, Sorry again.
Today UK has 1551, according CSSE at JHU website. There were a few, really; but UK has done a few tests too, therefore when UK changed test protocol, could to produce a huge increase of confirmed cases.

I am talking about a lapse within 3 or 4 days. You barely has time to react. You should pay attention on that issue.

You have a choice extremely hard and difficult.

My humble opinion is that if you have made your decision then do it. If a lockdown does occur, what you going to see months after that, will not be pleasant to yo; either too much suffer is not a good idea to get over SI, or maybe too much decline can to be an incentive to achieve it................the self deliverance.

It is a hard choice.

Edit: I made a mistake, UK has done 387 test each million of population. I thought that amount was lower, but it is low. Italy made 1000, Spain around 700 and South Korea around more than 4000.

Correct. We need a predictable environment when it comes ctb as much as possible.
