It sounds kind of stupid but I'm thinking of writing letters to my psychologist and primary care doctor. They both know I've been struggling with depression and suicidality for years. I don't want them to feel like they failed me or didnt do their jobs right. They're both amazing at what they do and I want to thank them for trying to help me as hard as they did. Would it be weird to leave notes for them? Or would it help with closure.

It would be for you more than for them imo so if it brings you peace or closure, write it down

They'll be dead, why do you say it would matter more for you than them?
I dont understand what you are asking. People write notes to help bring closure and peace even if they are the ones dying. Simple concept.

Interesting, I never thought about it like that. I always thought it's to comfort the survivors.

And to answer the question, I think it's a nice gesture but probably unnecessary. Health care professionals don't really expect anything from you and you don't owe them anything either.

It can be that too but in this situation it seems like it would help OP a lot to do

I have never felt this way about any of my healthcare providers. OP, if you feel this way, you really should write something, because they must be really good professionals for you to care so much. Don't worry if it's "weird" to write it, you're going to die, weird is the least of your worries. Don't die with the regret of them blaming themselves.

I think it's a kind thing to do. To show that you thought about them and were grateful for what they did for you. I'm thinking to do the same for my employers. Obviously to tell them I won't be here to work for them now- in part. But then, also to thank them for the opportunity to work for them. They are freelance creative jobs- which meant a lot to me. They were a big part of what helped me to hold on for so long. I've had ideation since childhood.

It's your final opportunity to say you want to say to people who are important. Medical professionals aren't necessarily fortresses of indifference when it comes to patient suicides/death and many can be profoundly emotionally affected.

Yeah. I'm in healthcare myself and a couple patient losses have hit me really hard. I've been seeing my doctor and psych for years now and I feel like they know me really well so I imagine it won't be easy.

That's right, didn't recognize your name. Of course you know that then.
