Would you prefer any barb (other than N) potentiated with alcohol/benzos over the IG and SN methods ?

I've read here and there that (famous) people had died with diethylbarbituric acid (the first barbiturate invented, a.k.a Barbital or Veronal), which is "slow-acting" and far from being as potent as Pheno or N.

If you could also add alcohol and benzos to potentiate the barb, would it be a solid alternative to SN and IG ?

Also interested, why is N the only barbi mentioned nowadays? Is there not more accessible barbituates at this point??
