Would commiting suicide by shooting oneself in the right or left temple with a shotgun even be viable or realistic

I wished I owned a firearm to help out, but I am not that smart enough to know, but anything where it's at the head will be very plausible and would result in damage but I'm not to sure about instant death. To ctb, I think you'd need to go for a certain nerve in the brain or equally any part that would instantly work for you. I remembered my time from SW and a man said it does help to ctb but I equally know you may survive (edit: with a barrel to head, you won't or heart from many stories I know and it depends on barrel too and how durable the bullets are too: it's a yes), and I wished I had saved their comment to better answer this. :((

I think you actually die long before the brain has time to register the pain

Shooting in the temple is fraught with the possibility of injury without achieving the result that you wanted. Pointing the end of the pistol directly in the mouth and a slight angle would be more effective as it would most likely hit the brain stem at the back of the head and the CTB job would be effective, unless you jerk your hand when the trigger is pulled.

Would you even be able to reach the trigger comfortably on a shotgun when you point it at the temple/bring the ear? I know nothing about guns so this is a serious question. I imagine if you are struggling to get to the trigger, it'll be easy to slip.

A shotgun is a very crude weapon when it comes to ctb. Nothing subtle about it.
It will mess you up, but will it kill you? You have a pretty good chsnce, but the angle matters.
Unless you have really long arms, the trigger is difficult to reach with the gun in a "self harm" position
Some survive by blasting away all flesh in the target area. With a shallow angle, the blast can deflect. It will hurt like hell snd be terribly loud.

Research, plan and practice. Use a live round when you feel you are ready.

It would mostly depend on the length of the gun and the length of your arms. I've held ones that I could comfortably hold at that angle and ones that I wouldn't be able to reach the trigger but I've also got pretty long arms, if you're shorter it's gonna be a lot tougher
