  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Why do most people the world oppose the idea of suicide, and even censor talk about it? When I hear about a suicide I feel a sense of tranquility knowing that a person in pain has ended their agony and suffering.

Because it is against human nature. That's why even suicidal people like us have a survival instinct.

I totally agree with @booray as faras it is against human nature and nature in general. I have had 2 attempts and I can say from experience that SI can be strong and also tricky at the same time. Walter

I agree. While I understand it's hard for loved one's left behind, I also feel a sense of tranquility for anyone who takes their own life. I also almost get a sense of jealousy, because I have wanted to for years. If people don't have suicidal thoughts like most of us do, they will never understand the struggle each and every second of everyday and to resist the temptations to end it. I know I look forward to being one of them, hopefully sooner than later.

Before I asked myself the same thing as you and came to the conclusion that we are afraid of dying. We are tied to life because there are still things that we love
as we are afraid of dying we cannot bear the idea of someone thinking about it

It does seem strange that society is soo opposed to it though. I mean it's so taboo can't even be discussed on Facebook or normal sites. Everyone dies eventually, some people get to a state of mental or physical suffering that is unbearable.

I guess the general consensus is that most suicides are impulsive and irrational, and the person could have gone on to live an acceptable life if given the appropriate help at the time. Which may be true, certainly see a number of posts on here where people seem to be suicidal because of some acute life crisis and not some unsolvable issue.

Because humanity would end thats why they try hard to keep people like us "labeled as crazy" because then alot of people would realize how shitty life is & drop dead too

This. I was going to say because it takes control away from those in control. Suicide is forbidden in religion, government, family, society. In a really messed up way, it is the ultimate expression of freedom or anarchy.

They are unable to understand why someone would want to end their life. They also foolishly believe that any issue can be fixed with enough time and treatment.

Cultures and religions, specific ones. Not all societies opposed suicide, or at least not as hard as modern western society does. In some cultures suicide is or was even compulsory sometimes. Lack of understanding or compassion too. But not SI, at least not directly. SI urges a person to avoid death of oneself, not of another person. It's something else probably.

People keep telling me when i tell them stuff like: Dont do something stupid. Doesnt matter that i am disabled and in agony for 3 years. They dont see the agony inside of me. That i am seeking death for 3 years.. that i dont have a future as a 26 year old guy who had a lot of Ambitions and Potential but lost everything due to an illness that makes me only to be able to waiste away and exist without lifing. It is weird, must be obvious that death is the best for me. People cant even stand being around me much cause i am overwhelmed by torture every sek and Seeking death. But still they want me to hold on live alone, barely get some shit to eat.. so they can sometimes Hang out with me. Tell me to hold on and talking about their life with me.. it is disgusting for Real if people rly tell me to hold on.

Society has a habit of purporting the (false) notion that people somehow owe their life to it, so it can get 'productivity' out of you in the form of taxes. The IRS can't come after the dead (hopefully)

1) In journalism contexts, there's evidence that shows that reporting on suicides in detail can lead to an increase in copycat suicides.

2) The stigma against mental illness and discrimination against the disabled. To acknowledge that mentally ill people deserve fulfilling lives, and also deserve the chance to opt out, would mean that people would have to acknowledge what exactly makes a mentally ill person's life full of suffering.

People have an easy time seeing someone dying of terminal cancer, in obvious pain, and determining that it's unfair to force them to stick around. It's clear that they aren't able to live their best lives anymore, because their opportunities are few, they're in a ton of pain, and they are suffering through and through.

On the other hand, mentally ill people already have a hard time being seen. There are people who insist we do not exist, or people who claim that there is no such thing as mental illness, just weak will. This hurts us more, because we don't get treated that way. People acknowledge that there are people who behave erratically, who are extremely difficult to talk to, who are impulsive and unstable, who are delusional and paranoid -- they will treat those individuals poorly, ignore them, fire them from their jobs, or refuse to hire them.

Because of the willful ignorance -- and maybe deep down, some genuine shame about the state of disability rights and mental illness awareness in this world -- people don't want to acknowledge that suicide is a natural, reasonable reaction to insurmountable pain and suffering.

People do not want to accept the fact that things can get that bad that one would want to end their life. They live under a delusion that life is always worth living. They therefore dismiss those who are suicidal as being irrational. People who have never been suicidal themselves will be unable to comprehend what it is like. I think also society needs to keep people alive to pay taxes.

They are scared to think about it, as an option. Could it be worth it? They are the ones left behind when someone close does it. It surely hurts (grief, shame, helplessness etc arises)

Because society is selfish, they don't like the idea of doing it to themselves so they apply their own reasoning to everyone else.

I think we're still adhering to leftovers of religious ideas. Namely, that our own lives are not ours to take, which stems from the idea that god gives life and that we may not decide for ourselves when to end it. I hope we'll one day reach a level of civilization where people's choices are respected and a humane death isn't blocked. Maybe even set up a waiting period to make sure suicide isn't an impulsive decision, I'm fine with that.
