When will this cycle of torture end?.
I will never have children not because of me, having more time and money for myself but because of them, I don't want them to suffer by being brought into this cruel and evil and unpleasant world.
This is a quote on the subject that I like , by Gustave Flaubert :

"The idea of bringing someone into the world fills me with horror. I would curse myself if I were a father. A son of mine? Oh no, no, no! May my entire flesh perish and may I transmit to no one the aggravations and the disgrace of existence".

I think they will realize this when things become much more overpopulated, vital resources such as clean water, fuel, food, and shelter become very scarce that things people are literally fighting tooth and nail for them, then they would slowly realize that propagation for the sake of continuing/introducing new life into the world isn't right.

Also, it would take a lot of cultural and institutional changes such as getting rid of the whole life is good, life is sacred, life is gift, and other religious bullshit that seems to be poisoning our species. The attitude shift will be pivotal to waking people up.

I think one of the key things that keeps people going is this idea of a sacrificial model. Will the sacrifices I make today lead to a better future?

In my experience every metric I can measure myself against that model have only increased suffering without reward. Now I'm left without many of the basic needs that keep people going, I've burnt the candle at both ends so to speak and every path I've taken has always since a young age lead me to this. Now I'm trying to do some damage control so that I can at least reduce the suffering for my family.

That was an enormous part of why I dragged my heels on helping my beloved get pregnant --and why my marriage fell apart. I still feel that way, emphatically, but if I could go back four years and get her knocked up, I would do so in a heartbeat. Selfish of me, I know, but there it is.

I would probably not now be attempting to ctb had I just been willing to have a kid.

When people be sure they don't need younger people to run the world and help them, when they get old. This probably can be happened when we have robots to take care of things so governments won't encourage people to have children.

The easiest way would be to blow up the earth and put an end to this nightmare.

Unfortunately, it's animal instinct to reproduce. Hopefully humanity will learn its lesson sooner than later, but I don't see that happening in my short lifetime

Never? Biologically speaking that's the only reason we're here. Without that it really is pointless. Socially we've complicated it to the point it makes people miserable me included. So much guilt and confusion. I'd say that's what needs working on

More and more people are beginning to realize this, but as long as humanity is around, there will always be people who want to have children. I think we'll start to see more of it when earth's resources become even more scarce.

People have children in the worst of conditions all over the world. They don't have a choice, we're just animals.

There is the deeper part of the brain, the older and instinctual part. We think we're in control, but it really controls us. It is our SI that keeps us from dying and our "desire" to have sex and children. There is no thought behind it, just pure instinct. You didn't choose to fall in love or feel ecstasy, your instinct chose for you.

As long as humans are just animals with tools it won't change, and more children will be brought into the world to suffer. It won't end.

They're not brought into the world to suffer. They're brought into the world to have more children. Sufferings an unfortunate side effect but I don't think it's inevitable. That's really up to us

If I knew then what I know now, I would have never brought 2 innocent children (now 16 & 26) in to this world. I can't even begin to articulate the guilt & shame I feel about it. They don't deserve this.

Out of curiosity, how old were you when you had them?

I'm 27 and until I was about 25, I thought at some point I'd want kids, but the world is so cruel, I have zero desire to now. It's so hard to simply survive day to day, even if you make a decent amount of money.

Do we stop living just because there's evil in the world? Isn't that letting evil win?

Before getting into a fight, you should be sure that whatever you're fighting for is actually worth fighting for.

Life is not worth fighting for, at least to me. Maybe if I were evil, I'd feel differently, but that would also be "letting evil win", wouldn't it?

If there's no life left, does good or evil still exist? Would anyone even be around to care?

I was 26 when I had my first son, naive & full of hopes & dreams. By the time I had my 2nd son at 36, life had begun to kick my ass so it wasn't as idyllic. When I hit my 40's, the blinders were off and life came at me with a vengeance. I'm encouraging both of my boys to not have children.

Isn't that just the same as making them take over the family business? Let them live their own lives and hope they're happier than you. It's setting them up for failure already.
Also no and no. The fact Trump hasn't killed himself yet means why the fuck should I?

We are evolutionarily programmed to live,
instincts and hormones care for population growth,
mostly a reflection on life and its meaning
comes predominantly at the end of life and also
not for everyone.
