i only drank a little of it. do not call me stupid or i will cry. it was pretty bad trying to drink it straight with no diluting. i didn't really know what kind of alcohol to buy or what proofs meant because i've never bought alcohol for myself before. i was looking up what to do on reddit and the comments said 100 proof was better than 80 or 90 because the flavor was stronger. now i'm stuck with alcohol that's too strong and gives me a bad headache lol. i bought a bottle to drink at home because i felt too socially anxious to go to a bar, but i think it would've been better for me even if it would've been more expensive.

does anyone know what i'm supposed to do with the bottle if i don't want to drink it and i can't give it to anyone i know because they're all sober? my family is anti-alcohol so i bought it secretly. i'm 21 and never drank until now. one of my friends said to keep the bottle instead of pouring it out outside, but then i would just have it under my bed. i feel really silly. i poured myself a small glass but i poured out the whole thing down the drain because i was getting sick. i tried pouring some water in but it didn't help.

I'm an alcoholic- let me help you!

100 proof is pretty strong- I think that's the threshold where alcohol becomes flammable. I'm sure that bottle was prob expensive so instead of wasting it, try mixing it with some type of creamy beverage. Cream pops, milkshakes, egg nogs, etc. would be my go-to for that. Bourbon can definitely be rough to start out with if you're only 21. I honestly prefer vodkas or more clear spirits I guess? Because in my head they're more versatile and can be mixed with a lot more.

And yeah- 100 proof is preferred because the flavor profile is more prominent, I guess. I would just suggest that you make sure you don't pour too much in when you mix it- start with just a bit. Try giving it a try mixed with some other type of creamy bev before writing it off completely though. Hope this helps.

milkshakes
milkshake for me tomorrow ohohoho

i did like the aftertaste even though i gagged and coughed immediately after a little sippy. thank you for your wisdom because i was for sure going to throw it out lol. in my head i was trying to look into flavor profiles i like and i thought i would like whiskey/bourbon because it's caramel and vanilla. but 100 proof makes the ethanol taste really overpowering. i think i would've made a better decision if i knew a single person that drank alcohol lol. i got anxious when i was inside a liquor store too because i didnt know what anything was so i just grabbed a bottle like a little baby. no one in my family drinks so i was worried about being discreet.

MIx it with cola or sprite. You can use your own ratios, eg 1 part bourbon 4 parts of cola. Also you can look up some cocktail recepies if you are feeling fancy. And remember, you can make your own drinks as strong as you want.

But yeah 100 proof straight is quite rough start to the world of alcohol.

i think i would've made a better decision if i knew a single person that drank alcohol lol
Live and learn and I guess this place can also help you with your alcohol-related questions🄃🄃

Cheers!

Bartender in another life here. Mixers are gonna be your best friends, like others have already suggested. But I would just add that you would be wise to start slow (like don't mix it 50/50). Try 3/4ths or more of your mix and 1/4th liquor. And LOTS of ice. Give it a good shake, strain the ice out and enjoy.

I was never much of a drinker until I found screwdrivers (orange juice and vodka). Six months later I am drinking 75% vodka/25% oj, over ice, at 6 in the morning while I'm getting ready to go into my job that starts at 8 am ... Lol I didn't even realize I had been mixing them that strong! Your taste buds will adjust and you will eventually be able to enjoy your whiskey neat if that is what you really want to do. Good luck!

Some as 1 to 3 or 1 to 5? With your 100 proof you can go 1 to 10 mix if needed and you are still getting seltzer/beer level of alcohol content. Remember to mix your drink with a shaker or a spoon. Also ratios are indicative, no need to follow them to a letter. No whiskey police is going to arrest you.

Whiskey also has a strong flavour and it can be quite overwhelming (I personally don't like whiskey, preferred rum/vodka/JƤgermeister when I drank). But no need to throw your bottle away yet as whiskey will stay fine for a long time.

Personally, if it was me, after seeing effects on folks over 50 plus years on this planet, I would either give it to another 21+ adult or pour it down the drain.

I see nothing wrong with a beer or drink ON A occasion, however, like any form of drug, including coffee and tea, one might, just a might, but one can never know, develop an affection for it and then it could be an anchor on one's life instead of enjoyment.

Give you an idea on alcohol, I live in a 4-season climate where winters are VERY cold, like -20F or more, and I was given a bottle of Everclear, which is something like 180
proof. One really cold more, this is before electronics in cars. the car would not start. I took the air filter cover off, and poured some Everclear into the engine, mixed it into the gas, and HOLY HEAVENS, it almost cracked, the engine, and did it start! I figured if it would start a huge car engine and me drinking that stuff? No thank you, so I kept it as a car starter helper on very cold mornings.

You are a smart soul and take some time and think it through and you will come to a conclusion that works for you.

i sipped some more but i still got a headache.
sipping on soda before bed because my throat still feels irritated. a part of me is thinking of tossing the bottle but i figure that i should try to mix it into something instead of throwing it out. i think the initial strong taste and smell puts me off it a lot. there's kind of nothing i can do with it besides mix it into stuff in light amounts. i fear that the real reason i bought bourbon because it was something i saw in movies lol. drinking it just isn't that fun when my throat gets so burnt after a few sips while diluted. my headache came on kind of immediately after drinking, but i think it's just because it's strong.

extremely true again pluto!

Very random but as a bourbon and whiskey lover, I once tried a coke float (coca cola & ice cream [best is vanilla]) and added some absolutely gasoline worthy whiskey into it. And it was really good, tasted the alcohol only minimally. Could work maybe if that's something you'd like.

Hhahhaha actually I have a similar dilemma. I bought a 76% spirit, knowing what it was, fully intending to drink it.

The problem, though, is that this thing tastes NASTY. It has a black licorice flavor that wasn't advertised on the bottle. So, so, gross.

I haven't had a drink now in almost a week, and my plan is to completely stop. But I was a whiskey drinker before that. Honestly, if this is your first rodeo with alcohol, please try something like cider first or even a pre-mixed cocktail. I know a few people here are saying to mix it with cola, but if you're doing that with 50% ABV whiskey I would be very conservative with your measurements. Less than a single.

thanks for the recommendation gunmetal. i was just thinking of doing a float yesterday because the bourbon wasn't diluted enough by the cola. i think i can still drink some if it's in a milkshake or something creamy so that i don't feel totally sick from it. i already like coke floats on their own. i need to buy soda and ice cream when i'm not busy.

i was also thinking this. i might buy something lighter later. i did a scan of my heb a few days ago instead of going to a liquor store but i still felt really nervous so i wasn't very thorough lol. it was also mostly wine. one of my friends told me to try white claw.

Not an alchohoic. I can stop when i want (trust me... lol... thats what they all say but belive me). U have to chase it. Use something that welll makes it more digestible. Coke. Sprite. Cranberry. These are the fluids that tone down strong alcohol
