Omg thisThe fact that abuse, trauma, and every wicked thing under the sun can be permanently imprinted in your brain by the synaptic strength of memory. You can never forget the evil that has been done to you, or evil that you've witnessed, without a large amount of cognitive dissonance.
If you've ever shared a washing machine you'll find that they end up in someone else's laundry. At one point I've had a whole collection of mystery socks that I didn't know what to do with.That we may never find out where the missing socks in the washing machine end up. Another dimension? Time travel? A mystery left forever unsolved.
