Wanted to ask since I'm curious to know what people think is going to happen after they're gone. If they're scared of going, etc. I'm kinda scared since I think consciousness can't really be extinguished because of law of conservation. Nothing is created nothing is destroyed all that. So after a very long span of time (or a subjective instant) a new consciousness is born without any memories, form or knowledge of the previous one. I know that nothing can happen after the heat death of the universe, but still infinite time means infinite possibilities so I don't know. So I feel that it's just life -> death -> repeat. And nothing is carried from the past so everything is for nothing. What do you guys think?

I've thought much along those lines. But we just don't know. Our consciousness seems to have emerged from nothing. Is it a unique one time experience or part of an abundant resource? With a subjective sample size of one we can't know. If it was an infinite resource that would be both heaven and hell.

I already stated this several times when others asked because this is one of the only things I think about and research, but I slightly lean towards a continuation of consciousness. What does that look like? I don't know. Possibly reincarnation (although I often hope not). Eternity is hard to imagine though and sounds exhausting.

Don't listen to the philosophers who cite "physics".
They're full of shit. Literally not a single one knows jack shit about physics. I promise you. They're borrowing from other fields because on their own their ideas have no merit. Actual physicists spend their time doing math and observing veritable reality.

What happens to our consciousness after we die is an unknown. We can't observe it. There's theories but that's it. If you want to die you have to be okay with not knowing.

I only believe death to be the true permanent peace of non-existence where this existence I just always saw as the most terrible, dreadful mistake is finally all gone and forgotten with no more torture and no more suffering.

For me non-existence is just all that's positive in this existence so dreadful that just causes all this terrible endless suffering with no limit as to how much one can be tortured and I'll just always see it as the most torturous abomination to exist, all I want is to never suffer ever again but of course only true perfection to me could ever lie in never suffering at all.

Same as before you are born. Nothing. Its what ive always believed in.
But
Its weird when you get close to death its only human to grasp on to anything something that could help. Most people like to believe in something after, god and pray when all is hopeless. Even the most non religious person will go through that phrase i feel at the end its just normal human SI.

I think its nothing. Its a bit of a scary thought knowing that in terms of the universe we are very insignifigant. But ultimately its the truth i dont believe we are "special" that this species is the favorite of the universe that somehow our concious is supposed to go and spend eternity doing something.

nothingness, reincarnation, 'heaven', all of it scares me. But its imminent and the idea of death brings me some peace, even if accompanied by fear. I prefer to just lie to myself about what death is like and try not to dwell, after all thinking about it will never help me wrap my head around it.

I have always been obsessed with death. Some times stronger than others, but it's always been the case even when I was very young. The fact that everything I've done will be nullified in the end and my curiosity makes me want to chase death. I hate the cycle (if my idea is true) because I can't control it, the possibility of endless suffering and loss of knowledge and self. I'd honestly prefer immortality if this is true.

There are three things I have to say:

The rules dictate that you cannot experience death; it will be like a dreamless sleep, or being put under anesthesia.

The rules also dictate that suicide is not a sin which leads to hell (separation), but rather unbelief.

And lastly, a counselor of mine told me, that in spite of everything I do, there's always a one-percent chance I'd survive, because "it wasn't your time yet".

I haven't heard of this one, it's scary. Thank you for sharing.

I hope my consciousness is gone. The curtains draw to a close as the lights go out.

I worry, sometimes, that this is all just a simulation, that someone has been making life a bitch on purpose. I imagine my existence is a torture program designed for someone else's bliss. Maybe it's an experiment? Maybe in every previous loop of this reality, I've killed myself, only for the simulation to reset.
Isn't that annoying?

Well. If I stop thinking about it. If I refuse to believe it. Hopefully, it won't be true.

why would god send someone to infinite torture for finite crime
I have been asking this ever since i was a kid. This shows how flawed and unrealistic the concept of hell is. God is love, not eternal torment.

I'm kinda scared since I think consciousness can't really be extinguished because of law of conservation. Nothing is created nothing is destroyed all that.

But then- our bodies aren't totally destroyed. If we were to die in the wild- we would become meat for scavengers. They would live off of the energy we ourselves consumed during our lives. So- our energy would be transfered that way. In the modern age- we feed insects and plants in burial or, further fuel a fire in cremation.

I suppose it depends on whether you see consciousness as an independent form of energy. I tend to believe that consciousness is a by product of the brain. An ability as it were. The same as sight and hearing. That we have simply evolved to be able to think and be aware of ourselves. So- I tend to believe that our individual consciousness dies when our brain does.

The numbers don't tally- for a start- for reincarnation. If there are only a certain amount of consciousnesses in circulation- how can huge fluctuations in population be accounted for? Unless new consciousnesses are being created somewhere and there are holding places for ones where a brain vacancy isn't available. Or- I suppose- if we can become conscious on another planet.

The dinosaurs roamed the earth for 180 million years- compared to modern humans 300,000. So- were our consciousnesses once lumbering about in a dinosaur? When they all died, surely there weren't all that many animals left- for their consciousness to migrate into for quite a while.

I suppose to be truthful about it though, I hate the idea of reincarnation- so, I'm more drawn to the reasoning on why it shouldn't happen. It's more that I hope there's nothing after this- more than that I'm sure there isn't.

quantum immortality
it certainly feels that way - although at some point i guess i must suddenly get younger and start all over again, because continuing to exist while getting consistently older and older doesn't seem realistic

it does feel at times, like i will never die; the moment i truly want to continue existing is almost certainly the moment it will happen though

But then- our bodies aren't totally destroyed. If we were to die in the wild- we would become meat for scavengers. They would live off of the energy we ourselves consumed during our lives. So- our energy would be transfered that way. In the modern age- we feed insects and plants in burial or, further fuel a fire in cremation.

yep - so may people tell us that we are just energy and energy cannot die
well of course it cannot die, but it moves along into whatever creature consumes us after death - in a just world, the energy lives, we die

I personally think nothing happens, it all just ends, similar to before we were born. I honestly wished there was a life after death. I'd love to see my mom and my dog again, but not to be. Imho
