What are some of the best horror movies?

i really like the purge movies, they're intense/suspenseful and different than most horror films.

alien is a great film. A real " woman in peril" film! Love it!
the Shining is also a great film! When that creepy old woman gets out of the bath tub.....THAT creeped me out!
@voyager have you seen " Lovely Molly" and " Mother" ?.....They are great horror films! "Mother" stars Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem!

Hey @BlackPoppet, sorry, never saw the edit. I didn't see the first, but I did see Mother. Liked that one, it reminded me of a dream state. The constant lack of reason, things/issues continuously forcing themselves on one and of course this helppless feeling to do anything about it. Like those assholes consistenly sitting on the sink, haha. Will check out Lovely Molly.

As for Alien, ya, great film. Doesn't frighten me per se, but the ambience and soundtrack is awesome and since it is listed as horror one might as well mention it, right. And Shining, uuh ya, that scene creeped me out too. Also the soundtrack of that film is so good. Great actors and the dialogues of course.

Oh yeah cube and cube zero ( did I get that right?) were cool films. Very Kafkaesque!
Yeah it took me a while to understand what was going on in Mother.

I thought Hostel 2 was surprisingly good.

Can imagine, even the small stuff we consider harmless as adults might still be scary to an innocent kid in the process of exploring this world. Maybe trees do come alive, how would a child know? The world can be both magical and haunting.

Did finally get round to watching "Lovely Molly" the symbolism wasn't (even) lost on me. Not sure if she was right in her action at the end but it was good.

But going through this thread again I noticed no one here has mentioned "The Road" (2009) yet. What's wrong with you?
