I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but I forgot to and Dark City is a really great movie, similar to The Matrix but maybe a bit better and with a more sophisticated plot. It's really underrated and not as popular as it should be imo.

If you like Japanese movies, have you seen Tony Takitani based on the short story by Haruki Murakami? I've watched and it's so beautiful. Melancholic, lonely, artistic, soft yet melting to watch. Highly recommend it. And also Norwegian Wood, it's a romantic story but I'd say it's presented in quite a non conventional way. Also very melancholic.

i love, love, love haruki murakami's work. i have read and seen norwegian wood, which is really something unique, but not tony takitani, yet. i will check it out, thank you. :)

It's been the same movie (and book) since I was 9 years old, The Virgin Suicides (1999):

Honorable mentions:

Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975)

Heavenly Creatures (1994)

There's a lot of other stuff I like - from stuff I've seen recently, You Were Never Really Here, the John Wick series, The Last Jedi (don't kill me), The Neon Demon, Annihilation, Senna, One Cut of the Dead, Glass, Spider-man - Into the Spider-Verse and The Favourite come to mind.

And like others have said Melancholia along with Antichrist and Nymphomaniac

I was so disappointed when I turned 16 and my life wasn't suddenly a Molly Ringwald film. She was the epitome of perfection for me.

Aww, this one is fantastic! Thank you for reminding me of it, I am going to rewatch it tomorrow to cheer myself up. It is such a fantastic twist on a vampire themed films. I loved how they had to draw pictures of each other to see how their outfit look because their images don't reflect in a mirror. LOL

Blade Runner. This is by far my favourite movie. I've seen it at least 30 times and know everything worth knowing and not worth knowing about it. Every time I see it I see something new and learn something new.

Batty

My other favourite movies are not as high-brow. They are, in order, The Empire Strikes Back, A New Hope, and Return of the Jedi. Yes, I'm a Star Wars fan and have been so since the age of five or thereabouts. I'm not too fond of the prequels and especially not the sequels, though.

Blade Runner is amazing, check out Blade Runner 2047 if you haven't as well, I really enjoyed that.

My favorite film is Aliens, I love everything about it. Especially love the bond between Ripley and Newt. Hudson (Pill Paxton) is brilliant in the film.

I absolutely love Aliens as well. Though I didn't like Alien 3 or 4. Really wish they'd do an Alien 5 to finish off Ripley's story.
