12 gauge shotgun is the best. If you don't want to use a long gun then handguns in .45, .40, .375 magnum, 10mm, or 9mm caliber. Any of those can do the deed.

Best place to aim is intra orally (in the mouth) next is just above or behind your ear. Under the chin or the temple are not nearly as successful
