Discussion Vet suicide rate in the UK

I saw this article about Vets in the UK have a ctb rate 4 times higher.

I just can't help thinking that it may also have something to do with they have easy & legal access to N?

It's a shame anyone is forced to consider ctb but I guess they have the access to what many consider the best ctb method.
And I dare say their actual method to ctb isn't made public because it's N.

I was a vet nurse for 20 years and know of several vets that ctb .They have access to a whole heap of drugs including N.
They are also the only ones that are required to sign a prescription to even order it.
I always said if i was to ctb ,i would use N and put N in a drip bag and hook myself up.
Its almost worth getting a job again as a nurse so i could get what i need.!

Yes I guess they are different from Doctors as they are allowed to give animals a peaceful exit. But Doctors aren't allowed to give humans a peaceful exit who are suffering.
Just how fucked up is this planet we live on???

Totally agree.It is such a peaceful and quick death too.
I held both of my cats when they were pts and they fell asleep whilst in my arms.

Sorry to hear that. It's never easy.
I think we'd all choose a nice peaceful lethal injection if given the option. But we have to endure pain in our day to day lives. And also pain to exit this place.
I have my SN, Meto and antacid. So that's as peaceful as I can hope for I guess.

Yes very true.
I don't think it's any coincidence that Vets have the higher suicide rate and also access to N.
I'm sure Doctors have the same pressures and issues but they do not have access to N as they aren't allowed to use it on humans.

I think I read somewhere that doctors are on average just as suicidal as any other profession but they do it more often because they have access to peaceful drugs. Vets sound like the drugs aren't behind as much red tape.

It would be very interesting to see how many of these suicides amongst vets are by the drugs they use in their daily professional lives. But it seems to me that just about every profession and age group are seeing increased rates of suicides or attempts and it makes me thing that the present systems we live by are failing at a alarming rate.

They can pretty easily use euthanasia drugs on themselves.

If society had legal access to N there would be a wave of deaths followed by a second wave of copy cats followed by a third wave and so on.. Our minds are so powerful that it can really spin out of control like this
