Back in the day there was a 'trend' going around in mental health forums where users would message someone to participate in a suicide challenge (the blue whale) they would join a group chat with multiple players , everyone was given tasks to complete within a certain amount of days like self harm, starving, isolation, talking with other players and taking pictures to verify when theyve completed the task. Mods would give out the tasks and players would have to do each one until the challenge was completed, the mod would then give them a schedule date for them to die, ok that day they were to commit suicide and they record as part of completing the game. For those of us who rarely/don't do social media, the what now? I assume this has nothing to do with eating plankton?
This is all true, and valid! There was debate whether the whole thing was a hoax or not but i remember hearing about the person who originally started it, they had sick intentions and went off to prison for it. The guy admitting doing it for fun.I think that blue whale definitely was a thing. Im sure if you look hard enough, it still is. But I do believe that the media REALLY ran with it.
I've had these thoughts too. In a way it would feel like you have a support system, someone to guide you though it. However sinister their intentions may be. And in a way, it could make it fun. Like a final scavenger hunt.
However, I would no longer consider this or something similar for many reasons. A few off the top of my head:
*CTB shouldn't be impulsive. It should be well thought out & done so relatively as safe as possible.
*Games like this 100% encourage people to CTB. Should this ever become a mainstream thing, hackers will absolutely coerce people into playing. Additionally, if someone is having thoughts (but still unsure) of CTB or start playing impulsively, there really is no way out. It becomes forced.
*I honestly believe the people behind this particular game have very ill intentions & it is probably dangerous to seek them.
* this particular game out other people's life and safety at risk.
These are all just my personal opinions on the subject. Nothing is backed by facts.
It's not a group of people cheering each other on. It's a few twisted men who coerce children to CTB.Hoax or not, I'd enjoy if something like that existed. A group of people cheering eachother on to gradually nearing CTB would feel both less lonely and less daunting. Sort of like group-CBT.
Group cbt, in a way isnt this forum low key kinda that? SS feels to me like a support group but not as formal the way a suicide challenge would be. People here have mentioned death challenges are more risky , i hadn't considered the careful planning behind it, my stance on this had changed seeing these other commentsHoax or not, I'd enjoy if something like that existed.
